The new DBS 770 Ultimate bids farewell to the V12, with an astonishing 663 lb-ft of torque to deliver a special driving experience.
For many, the debut of the insane Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate marks the end of an era. The era of the V12 is slowly coming to pass, much like that of the V10 engine. Manufacturers like Lamborghini, Ferrari and of course Aston Martin are very much looking to the future and much of it is hybrid, and electric as well. Aston Martin have for many years had the DBS as their flagship V12 masterpiece. A car that has come to define the V12 era. But that era is coming to an end.
The DBS in its V12 form is now to exit stage left, after the company took the covers off the DBS 770 Ultimate. This is a final, top-level special model of the DBS to say farewell to the V12 engine. As you might expect, Aston Martin are not letting the V12 DBS go quietly. This special edition is also formed of less than 500 units in total, and the engine within the 770 Ultimate makes over 700 hp and an astonishing amount of torque. That would sure make it difficult to drive, but tell us a better way to honor one of Aston Martin’s greatest cars?
Bundles Of Power And An Incredible Amount Of Torquevia Aston Martin
We do not know if the DBS will ever return with V12 power, be it in a hybrid manner or as a pure V12 for a very limited run. But for now, this is goodbye to the DBS. And as you can imagine, the engine under the hood makes this the most powerful DBS ever created. Aston Martin says that the V12 engine under the hood makes 770PS at 6,500 rpm. That translates to around 759 hp which is a staggering amount of power. As you would expect, the speed reflects the power level.
Perhaps the highlight of the DBS 770 Ultimate is the sheer level of torque that it makes. That 759 hp V12 makes a staggering 900 Nm of torque, which in British speak is around 663 lb-ft. That level of twist-force happens from just 1,800 rpm all the way to 5,000 rpm. With a noticeable power increase and all that torque going right to the rear wheels, the DBS 770 will be extremely difficult to launch off the line. Torque output of the standard DBS had to be limited in first gear to help manage the rear wheels from spinning out. Despite which it was a handful, especially in wet conditions. Something hat was made apparent in an episode of The Grand Tour when they drove the DBS along with the BMW M8 Competition and Bentley Continental GT from Georgia to Azerbaijan.
The astronomical level of torque would put plenty of high-performance electric cars to shame. Very few cars have such levels of torque available to them. Two of the others are the hybrid Aston Martin Valhalla, and the Ferrari LaFerrari. Supercars the DBS quite frankly has no right to be close too on performance terms.
The DBS 770 Delivers A Raw Aston Martin Driving Experiencevia Aston Martin
Driving the DBS 770 Ultimate sounds like a very raw experience thanks to that insane V12 engine. Aston Martin says that there is an exceptional response to the throttle thanks to the V12 engine, as well as outstanding in-gear acceleration. There is of course that authentic V12 soundtrack, something we will not hear for much longer. So we should savor it while we can. To handle all of that power and torque, the 770 Ultimate has a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a mechanical Limited-Slip Differential at the rear of the car.
Aston Martin clearly wants to make the most of that V12 engine. So to do that, the 770 Ultimate has what they say is a unique transmission calibration. This is to enhance shift speeds and driver interaction for the car. That then translates into what Aston Martin says is a “truly connected driving experience.” There has clearly been an inherent goal within the company to make this DBS feel the most special to get behind the wheel of. And it is all down to that truly remarkable engine. It isn’t just the raw power figures, or the torque level. It’s how this engine delivers that power.
The Very Special DBS 770 Ultimate Is A Work Of Artvia Aston Martin
There is even more to this car than just the engine too. A stiffer chassis and special suspension calibration helps to increase the control and composure of the car. Plus, this is all done without any compromise to the ride quality of the 770 Ultimate. The exterior is a sight to behold as well, with the car on bespoke 21-inch wheels that come in three finishes. The long hood, horse shoe engine vent and front splitter bring this last V12 DBS up to a level we did not think possible. It’s another work of art from Aston Martin.
How Many DBS 770 Supercars Will Be Built?via Aston Martin
If you want to get your hands on one, then you will have to have plenty of cash, and also act fast. Just 499 vehicles in total will get made. 300 of those are coupes and 199 of those are Volantes. In fact, you need to act so fast that they are already all sold. So the fact that Aston Martin did not release any pricing information doesn’t matter. As far as farewells go though, this may be the perfect one. The DBS 770 Ultimate is Aston Martin’s farewell to the V12, and it might be the best farewell the engine could ever ask for.
