Erik ten Hag explains why Aaron Wan-Bissaka is improving for Man Utd

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started the last five Premier League games and has drawn praise from the Man Utd manager.

Wan-Bissaka thwarts Zaha

Erik ten Hag says Aaron Wan-Bissaka is “picking up on the coaching” amid his resurgence at Man Utd. Having played only four minutes all season prior to the World Cup, Wan-Bissaka has started all five of United’s Premier League matches since the restart.

The 25-year-old drew widespread praise for his sliding tackle on Wilfried Zaha that effectively prevented Crystal Palace from a late win over United at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.

Zaha, a former teammate of Wan-Bissaka’s, admitted “he’s the only one who can do that scoop tackle, it was a great tackle”. Ten Hag thought Wan-Bissaka was one of United’s best performers in their 1-1 draw.

“Yeah, he’s picking up the coaching and he’s making good progress from the start of the season until now,” Ten Hag said.

“He was in a bad, I would say, situation because he was not fit. He had a lot of injuries, he had a couple of illnesses in the first half until November and things changed after the break, during the break, I would say.

“He worked well in the pre-season before the second half of the season. He worked well in the training camp, he had then some good performances in the games, and I think he’s making good progress.

“Also, tonight I think he was one of our best players.”

Wan-Bissaka is expected to line up again at Arsenal on Sunday with Diogo Dalot recovering from a muscular injury.

Dalot has not played in the league since he strained his hamstring in Portugal’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to Morocco on December 10.
