There are many ways a player can find ways to be effective in the NBA. Usually, having great athleticism is the easiest way to find a place in the league and be a good player. But not every player is born with that trait and Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic is one of them.
Nikola Jokic is currently one of the best players in the NBA and is the 2-time reigning MVP of the league. Jokic’s basketball IQ is off the charts, and it has helped him in becoming arguably the best big man in the league currently.
Prior to gaining all the fame, 19-year-old Jokic once explained how his playing style is very different and what are a few flaws in his game.
“Everybody jumps so high, I don’t jump. I just play basketball like 1 on 1, 2 on 2, something like that. I don’t jump high. I don’t run too fast. … I think basketball, it’s about teammates. When I’m open, I score. I pass. I play basketball. Just play simple.”
This clip of Jokic was before he was drafted into the NBA. It may have played a role in the Denver Nuggets drafting Jokic with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The decision turned out to be a masterstroke by the organization.
Nikola Jokic Is Having Another MVP-Like Season
Being a second-round pick, not many expected Nikola Jokic to become the superstar that he is today. But against all odds, Jokic used his basketball style to become a 2-time NBA MVP.
Moreover, he is in talks about winning the third MVP award of his NBA career. After all, he is averaging a stunning 25.1 PPG, 11.0 RPG, and 9.9 APG while carrying the Denver Nuggets to a 33-14 record, which is currently the best record in the Western Conference.
