The Argentinean confirmed in Ole that they use it when they argue with each other
Lionel Messi made history with iconic moments at the World Cup, but one of the unexpected ones was off the field.
One of the most played videos and an expression that some have tattooed on their skin or printed on a T-shirt was Messi’s “walk away, idiot” directed at The Netherlands’ forward Wout Weghorst.
The saying has crossed borders and his children are no strangers to it.
Family banter
The striker, in an interview with Diario Ole, has confessed that his children use the saying too
“When they argue and fight among themselves, they throw it around,” he explained.
Laughing, the Argentina No.10 acknowledged that some of them use it at home.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi went viral on social media after footage emerged of his reaction to a journalist’s passionate plea.
Messi secured one of the major trophies that had alluded him in his glittering career in 2022 after leading Argentina to the World Cup trophy in Qatar.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner scooped the Golden Ball award at the tournament after Argentina’s thrilling penalty shootout win over France.
Messi has vowed to continue playing for Argentina, despite winning both the 2021 Copa America title and the 2022 World Cup trophy with his country.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has also reiterated that there will be a place in his squad for Messi at the 2026 World Cup in North America.
During an interview with Argentine newspaper Ole in Paris this week, Messi was left with a cheeky smile on his face after one of the interviewer’s words of encouragement.
Following the end of their conversation, the enthusiastic interviewer told Messi: “Well, Leo, let’s go for more…”
Responding to the interviewer, the World Cup-winning Argentine said: “There’s nothing more!”
The reporter then replied with calls for him to win the Champions League with PSG and back-to-back Copa America trophies with Argentina.
“The Champions League and Copa America are coming,” he told Messi.
Entertaining the idea of lifting the Champions League and Copa America again, Messi said: “Yes, yes, yes… always for more.”
One fan said in response to the footage: “He is done. Won’t be surprised if he goes farming in Argentina, leaving football. Living peacefully.
Someone else commented: “I love this so, so much. He’s just so happy. Done. Just chilling. At peace. Best happy ending ever.”
“He doesn’t care anymore, he knows that he completed football in the best way possible,” one Twitter user added.
A fourth fan wrote: “He completed this sport in the most dramatic, emotional way, the most complacent footballer ATM. But I wish for a last dance with Pep [Guardiola].”
And a fifth said: “Messi knows he has completed the sport.”
Beckham: I love watching players like Messi
Explained why he enjoys watching the PSG star
David Beckham has broke down the reasons why Lionel Messi is the player that he enjoys watching most.
The Argentina captain led his team all the way to 2022 World Cup success back in November.
His future at Paris Saint-Germain is up in the air, as his current deal runs until the end of June and PSG have yet to announce his contract extension that would see him stay put beyond the upcoming summer.
“It has to be Messi. I love Leo for many different reasons,” Beckham told ESPN Argentina.
“I love him because he’s a great father. I love him because he’s a great personality, a character.
“He’s a great person. But I think what everybody loves about him is the way he plays the game.
“He plays the game with passion. He plays the game just free the way he plays. And I think this past World Cup again.
“I think the way he played for his team, for his country and to win that World Cup was an incredible moment for him. And I love watching players like him.”
