David de Gea wasted no time taking to Twitter after Manchester United beat Crystal Palace to give his verdict on the red card for Casemiro.
United were in control of the match when a tussle broke out after Antony was barged off the pitch and Casemiro was among the players to wade in.
VAR got involved and Casemiro was handed a straight red card which will keep him out of United’s next three domestic matches.
Thankfully, he will still be able to play in the EFL Cup final against Newcastle on 26 February, and of course in the Europa League against Barcelona.
De Gea reacts to Casemiro red card
De Gea was quickly on Twitter after the game, posting a GIF of former United manager Jose Mourinho saying one of his most famous quotes.
It said: “If I speak, I am in big trouble, in big trouble, and I do not want to be in big trouble.”
That message makes it pretty clear that De Gea does not agree with the decision but he does not want to say too much more than that.
De Gea is not usually that outspoken with his views, and he will likely be asked about it in post-match interviews, so it will be interesting to see if he says anything more.
It remains to be seen if United decide to appeal the decision and see if Casemiro can get his ban overturned in the days ahead.
If they can’t, it will further weaken United’s midfield options, with Scott McTominay out of the matchday squad today, and Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek longer term absentees.
It will only increase the pressure on Marcel Sabitzer to hit the ground running after he made his debut as a substitute to help see the game out.
He showed his experience, physicality and commitment and will likely be handed his first start against Leeds at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
