Former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson believes his old side should consider bringing Wilfried Zaha back to Old Trafford this summer.
Zaha is in the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park and will have no shortage of suitors should he decide to move on this summer.
The Ivory Coast international left south east London in 2013 to join United but made just four appearances under David Moyes and was loaned out to Cardiff City just six months on from his arrival.
Zaha returned to Crystal Palace the following season where he has been one of the Premier League’s brightest talents ever since with Simpson naming Liverpool as one of the sides who are in need of a player of his quality.
And while he believes there will be plenty of clubs interested, he would like to see United move for the 30-year-old, relishing the prospect of a link-up with Marcus Rashford.
‘it’s a tough question, he can go wherever he likes especially on a free transfer in the summer,’ Simpson, who came through the United ranks before winning a Premier League title with Leicester City, told Stadium Astro.
‘I feel like Wilf plays better when he is the main man. I know he was a lot younger when he went to United, but if he goes to another top four top side he’s not going to be the main man.

‘So it is interesting to see where he goes but I think somewhere like Liverpool could do with him because at the moment it is not happening for them.’
Zaha was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing before retiring from management. United struck a deal with Palace in January 2013 with the youngster remaining at Selhurst Park for the remainder of the season while Ferguson’s side marched onto win the league.
Keen to see Zaha return to Old Trafford, Simpson believes his time at the club would have been very different had Ferguson stayed on.
‘I would bring him back here,’ Simpson said. ‘If you looking at Marcus Rashford as the No. 9 and Wilfried on the left, that is some firepower.
‘It was Sir Alex Ferguson who signed him then he left. Moyes obviously came in and it didn’t work out.
‘I do genuinely believe if Sir Alex was the manager when he signed we would have seen a different Wilfried Zaha at Manchester United.’
