Aubameyang set for Chelsea exit as transfer ‘agreed’ amid Champions League snub

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks set for an exit, with a deal said to be done with an MLS side after the striker was left out of the Blue’s Champions League squad

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s short spell at Chelsea appears to be coming to a close as reports claim that an exit is on the cards as a transfer has been “agreed”. It comes after a tough few months for the Gabon international striker since moving to Stamford Bridge from Barcelona.

Aubameyang removed from Chelsea's Champions League squad

The 33-year-old has made 11 appearances in the Premier League, scoring just once and most recently featuring from the bench. His struggle since was summed up when he was omitted from the Champions League squad to make room for new additions to the side in the next round.

“I don’t think it’s going to be difficult because Pierre is a professional and of course, I understand he will be disappointed,” manager Graham Potter said on the decision. “It was a tough decision, a tough call. We had three coming in and two had to go out. He was the one that missed out, he’s done nothing wrong at all.”

The situation has led to discussions around a potential exit in the near future, with the Blues in need of a striker for the long-term. While most major transfer windows are already closed, there are still some that remain open, meaning Aubameyang could leave sooner than some may expect.

One of those leagues is America’s Major League Soccer, with reports claiming that Los Angeles FC could be a destination for the forward. According to Le10Sport, a deal has already been agreed with LAFC for a loan move for the remainder of the season, with the club having lost Gareth Bale to retirement recently.

Graham Potter had some difficult decisions to make.

It remains to be seen whether the move will get over the line in the next few days, but it could be one that benefits all parties in the end.
