There was a time not too long back when the NBA world wanted Devin Booker to leave the Phoenix Suns. He was putting up good numbers for years, but a poor supporting cast meant wins were hard to come by. To say that things have changed now would be an understatement.
The Suns pulled off the biggest trade in the NBA in quite some time as they acquired Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. There is suddenly a superteam in Phoenix, and they are now one of the favorites to win it all this season.
Chris Paul is excited to see KD on the Suns as he called him one of the best players to ever play the game after they played the Hawks. Booker also spoke on Durant joining the team and had some high praise for him after they beat the Pacers on Friday night.
(starts at 1:46 mark)
“I think it’s just him and the rim out there. I don’t think he sees anybody around him. He’s a special talent that I don’t think this game has ever seen and will ever see before. Just the tangibles that he has, at the size that he has, how fluid it is. I’m excited to see behind the scenes and see it day-to-day and get some competition with him. Maybe some 1-on-1s and keep perfecting our craft.”
There probably won’t ever be another KD, as that combination of size and skill is just so unique. It is hard to see any team being able to stop this juggernaut of an offense that they have now, but there are concerns defensively. Phoenix will also be hoping that we don’t get a repeat of last season, where they were the favorites entering the playoffs.
Luka Doncic Says The Suns Are The Favorites In The West
The reason why the Suns were interested in getting KD all this time was because of how last season ended. They had won 64 games and ran away with the best record in the NBA, only to get embarrassed by Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Prior to the Suns shaking up the NBA with this Durant trade, it was the Mavericks who had made the biggest splash by trading for Kyrie Irving. Doncic feels the Mavs have a real shot at the title after the trade but admitted that the Suns are now the favorites in the Western Conference.
