Arsenal supporters are concerned as the ‘February curse’ strikes once more

Arsenal supporters believe their ‘February curse’ has returned after their Premier League title chances were dashed by defeats against Everton and Brentford.

Arsenal fans have bemoaned the return of the ‘February curse’ with just a single point taken from fixtures against Everton and Brentford in the Premier League title race.

Talk of the curse dates back to Arsene Wenger’s final few years at the club, with Arsenal slipping away from title contention in the New Year following positive starts to several seasons.

With fans praying that 2022/23 would be different under Mikel Arteta, the demoralising 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park was followed up by a frustrating draw at home to Brentford.

Taking to Twitter, one fan hoped: “Is the February curse on? I so hope we can turn it around.” A second added: “That February curse is a problem straight…”

A third agreed: “Looking like a February curse… Bust or go home against City.” A fourth posted: “The yearly February curse is back.”

A fifth said: “Guys looks like the February curse is getting there but we can still do it.”

Supporters were left fuming by the tactics of Brentford with Ivan Toney cancelling out Leandro Trossard’s first goal for the club following some long-ball tactics.

Arsenal now sit six points clear of Manchester City ahead of their first meeting of the season on Wednesday, with their second set for April 26.

Trossard told MOTD of the result: “We have to learn from that. There’s a game again on Wednesday to turn things around.”

Premier League winning former Gunners defender Martin Keown said of the disappointing run on Final Score: “Without doubt, Brentford could easily won this game. That’s five points dropped for Arsenal.

“Over to Man City now tomorrow against Villa and then it’s all to play for on Wednesday night and that gap could be down to zero.

“It’s not been a great week for Arsenal but credit to Brentford for the way they set up today, made it very difficult for Arsenal to break them down.”
