Disney has been having a hard time for quite a while now, and there seems to be no end to the madness that they’ve gotten themselves into. After rumors came out suggesting the possible sale of content from the company’s premier streaming service to third-party publishers, The Little Mermaid‘s new teaser trailer has ended up feeding the trouble that stands before them.
The teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1989 animated movie of the same name was quite refreshing to watch after the last trailer for the movie came 5 months ago. But one huge detail that fans saw in the new trailer was that the CGI work looked sub-par, and it just means more trouble for Disney.
For a company that is as well known as Disney, one would expect that the movies that the massive production house pumps out would be of excellent quality, at least in the technical aspect. They have enough money to get the CGI work just right, but it seems like The Little Mermaid lacked in that area.
The Little Mermaid
The latest trailer for the live-action adaption of the 1989 movie has already been met with racist remarks all over the internet for making the race-swapping the main character, Ariel, played by Halle Bailey.
But now comes, at least, a much more reasonable criticism of the much-awaited re-telling of the classic 1989 Disney hit. According to lots of fans who watched the new teaser for The Little Mermaid, the CGI is just not hitting the mark that they would have expected
This failure to capture the attention of their fans is part of a larger issue that Disney is currently facing, and it’s not a good look at all.
The Little Mermaid‘s Trailer Backlash Adds To Disney’s Problems
It is common knowledge among fans that Disney is not too good at treating its employees, which is an understatement. Even the cast members who work day in & day out at the magical Disneyland theme parks have reported numerous cases of being underpaid and undervalued.
Disney
The backlash toward The Little Mermaid‘s ‘sub-par’ CGI that fans did not like at all is only adding icing to the cake. Back in September last year, the billion-dollar company came under fire from all over the internet after news broke that the VFX artists working under the company were underpaid and overworked.
This only makes sense and paints a much clearer picture of why the CGI in The Little Mermaid‘s teaser trailer looked off to a lot of fans, and it is only Disney itself that can get itself out of this mess by treating its workers better.
The Little Mermaid is set to release in the United States on May 26, 2023.
