When Kevin Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns, the Western Conference has become much more competitive. The Suns have the talent to win a title without a doubt, which is bad news for other contending teams.
Recently, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant was asked about Kevin Durant coming to the Western Conference. Morant maintained his confidence, claiming that he was ready for the star to be in the West. Previously Morant notably claimed that he wasn’t worried about any team in the Western Conference.
I’m ready.
It is clear that Ja Morant has the right approach to winning at a high level in the Western Conference. He is willing to face whoever is in front of him, even if that player is Kevin Durant. That is the attitude one needs to find success in the league, and Ja Morant has it.
Ja Morant’s Confidence Is What Makes Him A Great Player
Though many people dismiss Ja Morant’s confidence as him being cocky, it is clear that he is doing something right. He is already one of the best point guards in the league, and it doesn’t look as though he’ll be slowing down anytime soon.
Previously, we saw Ja Morant catch a lot of criticism for his “fine in the West” comments. However, the star doesn’t regret it, noting that his confidence is what got him and the Grizzlies to where they are right now.
“I don’t care. Honestly I said what I said and I meant that,” Morant said. “The confidence I had when I said that, is the confidence that got us to the point we’re at now, being a top team in the league.”
The Memphis Grizzlies may have a tougher time in the Western Conference right now, but they are still one of the premier teams. They have Ja Morant flanked with a lot of solid players, such as Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane. There is no doubt that they have a chance to get out of the Western Conference still, and they seem primed to take a leap and make a deep run in the postseason this year.
Only time will tell if Ja Morant will end up winning a championship in the future. The Grizzlies definitely have the potential to win it all, especially as their young players continue to develop and hit their primes. There are other good teams in the West, but the Grizzlies should feel confident against any opponent.
