When a school janitor heard her name over the loudspeaker, she didn’t think much of it. She could never have imagined the surprise waiting for her inside the cafeteria.
Frances Buzzard worked at Belle Elementary in West Virginia and served the teachers and the children well by keeping the school clean. The 77-year-old always had a smile on her face and never expected any special treatment.
No one at the school knew that she never had a birthday party thrown in her honor—except for the school’s cook. When the cook told other colleagues about Buzzard, they decided to do something special.

Called to the CafeteriaTo show Buzzard just how much she meant to them, the staff and students of Belle Elementary organized a surprise. As the elderly janitor tended to her daily tasks, she heard her name over the loudspeaker.
Someone said:
“Rendell and Ms. Frances, could you please report to the cafeteria?”

Treated like a QueenBuzzard didn’t suspect a thing and thought she had been called to tidy up the area. However, when she walked through the doors, she was stunned. Everyone shouted, “Surprise!”
Buzzard’s face lit up as she saw balloons and birthday signs made by the students. She was also treated like a queen, complete with her own sash and tiara.
Her First Birthday PartyBuzzard sat on a special chair amongst the students, where she watched a video that was created for her. The entire group also sang happy birthday to her, and it was a moment she would treasure forever.

Buzzard then excitedly blew out her candles and enjoyed the delicious cupcakes. She shared that she couldn’t remember anyone doing something like this for her.
It Meant the World to HerThe janitor revealed that she grew up in poverty. Her family didn’t have money for birthday parties or even Christmas celebrations, so all they were given was “fruits and nuts when they could afford it.”
Buzzard’s first official birthday party was undoubtedly a special day, she expressed:
“Oh, it’s a great big party. I appreciate it, I’ve never had nobody do this for me.
Another School Employee Was SurprisedJanitors, teachers, and other educational staff members deserve to be spoilt for all they do to keep schools clean and enrich young minds. Stories like that of Buzzard are heartwarming, and in Florida, another employee received a special surprise.
Nine-year-old Parker Williams surprised his teacher, Mrs. Chambers, with an unexpected gift in 2019. The youngster believed his teacher deserved a “pay-raise,” so he gave her $15 of his own money. The kind gesture meant the world to her.
Mrs. Chambers felt appreciated, and while she returned the money to the student, she encouraged him to keep sharing his kindness. Just like the school kids who made Buzzard’s day, students like Williams inspire school staff to do their jobs with passion and joy.
