TPO – Lionel Messi received chilling death threats when gunmen attacked his and his wife’s supermarket in his hometown of Argentina.
According to the Tango local media, two gunmen armed with heavy guns stormed a supermarket owned by his wife’s chain in Rosario, Argentina. These guys fired 14 times, damaging furniture. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Before leaving, they left a message to Messi: “We will wait for you. Javkin (Mayor Rosario) won’t be able to protect you.”
Surely the fans will be shocked by this information, because it is rare for anyone to hate Messi in Argentina, especially after he brought home the World Cup championship.
According to eyewitnesses, it is likely that these guys are frustrated because they don’t want Messi to return to play for Newell’s Old Boy, a rival team with Rosario Central. There is news that Newell’s club will be a potential destination if Messi leaves PSG .
Meanwhile, Rosario prosecutor Federico Rébola said that authorities were reviewing the security camera footage and investigating. Rebola said this is the first time Messi and his wife have received such threats.
Celia Arena, the head of the Santa Fe province’s justice department, called the attack “an act of terrorism by a mafia group”. Mayor Javkin went to the supermarket and lashed out at the federal government for what he called the failure to stop drug-related violence in Rosario.
Argentine media are also calling for maximum protection for Messi when he will return to the national team to prepare for two friendly matches against Panama and Curacao on the 23rd and 28th of this month.
