Terrified footballer and young family moved to hotel ‘safehouse’ as source reveals crooks watched them for a while and attempted burglary before
LIVERPOOL star Roberto Firmino’s home was burgled by a hooded gang who stole £70,000 in jewellery, watches and clothes.
The Brazilian winger, latest in a string of burgled footballers, was targeted by crooks who are thought to have spent days watching his house.
Liverpool star Robert Firmino’s home has been burgled by a hooded gang
It is understood they were disturbed on a previous attempt, but returned after waiting for Firmino to leave with his wife and two children.
The gang then swooped on the Victorian house in a leafy area of Liverpool and ransacked the 25- year-old star’s apartment before escaping on foot.
Anfield officials moved Firmino and his shaken family into a hotel over Christmas before a club security team was then tasked with protecting them at the home.
Robert, wife Larissa and their children have been moved out of the house and into a hotel for their protection
A source said: “These guys had been waiting for some time before making their move.
“They’d obviously been watching Roberto come and go, then swooped in.
“It’s thought they are the same guys who were disturbed mid-burglary on a previous occasion.
Sources claim the gang had been staking out the family home for a while
It’s thought the same gang attempted to break in before, but were disturbed by the family’s return
“He was obviously shaken up as he has a young family, so the club had him in a hotel before giving him security at the house.”
Firmino, on £100,000 a week, lives with wife Larissa, and their two young daughters.
Days after the December 22 burglary, the footballer was charged with drink-driving after being pulled over by police.
In total, £70,000 in jewellery, clothes and watches was taken
Officers probing the house raid have carried out forensic tests on Firmino’s apartment but have yet to track down the burglars or recover the stolen items.
The gang were said to be wearing hoods, with one in a blue Puffa coat.
Det Insp Steve Christian of Liverpool CID said: “While the occupiers were not in at the time, it has clearly been very upsetting to find their home has been targeted in this way.
