Erling Haaland has revealed the secret recipe to his goalscoring success … tucking into a plateful of his dad’s LASAGNE before matches.
Erling Haaland could well become a contender to be named football’s GOAT, as he netted a stunning FIVE goals in Manchester City’s 7-0 trouncing of RB Leipzig.
The Norwegian striker joined Manchester City last summer and had already bagged 34 goals in 35 games before the German side came to town in the Champions League.
There’s just no stopping Haaland at the moment
He bagged a first-half hat-trick against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night, and wasn’t done there
Haaland has revealed that his dad’s lasagne is the secret recipe to his goalscoring success
Haaland, 22, took his goal tally to a mouthwatering 17 from ten games since his summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
His Sunday heroics were hard for United to digest, and took Haaland “pasta” yet another record.
And the Leeds-born ace said homemade Italian dinners cooked up by his dad Alfie have nourished his ambitions.
He told Norwegian broadcasters Viasat, via Spox: “My father has made lasagne for me before the last three home games.
Against Leipzig, Haaland bagged an early brace inside a minute, before getting his hat-trick just before half-time to put City firmly in control of the last 16 tie – which was his fifth treble of the season so far and his second in the Champions League.
His second effort was a landmark strike, with Haaland now having scoring 31 goals in the Champions League.
Having reached the 30-goal milestone after just 25 games, the 22-year-old becomes the youngest player to reach that tally.
Not only that, but Haaland is also the fastest player ever to reach 30 goals in Europe’s biggest competition – quicker than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe.
He wasn’t done there as he netted twice more inside the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Haaland was then substituted in the 62nd minute, much to the relief of everyone associated with Leipzig.
Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne scored City’s other goals as Pep Guardiola’s men ran out 7-0 winners on the night and 8-1 on aggregate.
Haaland’s efforts mean that the striker now has ten goals against Leipzig, more than any other player in world football has managed.
At 22 years and 236 days, Haaland’s now the youngest player to reach 30 Champions League goals
What’s most frightening is that he’s only just getting started
Haaland’s efforts mean that the striker now has ten goals against Leipzig, more than any other player in world football has managed.
However, Haaland has some way to go before he can get near the top of the Champions League’s all-time scoring chart.
The striker would need to surpass Andriy Shevchenko’s total of 48 to break into the competition’s top ten scorers ever.
If he’s to get into the top three he’ll need to surpass Robert Lewandowski’s total of 91, although the Barcelona star will be hoping to add to that before he hangs up his boots.
Should Haaland want to become the Champions League’s all-time top scorer, he’ll need to reach 140 goals, the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo following prolific form with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
You wouldn’t put it past Haaland reaching all those landmarks, however
