Who is the greatest basketball player of all time? This has been an ongoing debate for several years now, and there are three major contenders: Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and LeBron James.
Former NBA superstar Isiah Thomas shared his thoughts on the ever-so-exciting GOAT debate in a one-on-one talk with Karl Malone. In the clip, Thomas revealed how he changed his preference for the GOAT from Michael Jordan to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to then LeBron James.
“When you say the greatest of all time, first I started with Michael,” Thomas said. “I remember looking directly in his eyes, and it was like whatever you do, whatever you say, we’re gonna beat you. But then, when I retired, and then I started saying, ‘Okay, let me get something to back up my opinion.’ So then I started looking at what Kareem had done, and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, timeout.’ Ain’t nobody ever did what Kareem did. All-time scoring leader, activist, all of it, right? And then LeBron comes along, and now he has broken Kareem’s record.”
After listening patiently to Thomas’ opinion, Karl Malone also talked about what LeBron and Kareem have done in the NBA and somewhat agreed with Zeke’s opinion. But his pick for the GOAT remains Julius Erving.
“Julius ‘Dr. J’ Erving for this kid, but are you kidding me? LeBron is my size but bigger. When you look at what LeBron has done, and Kareem has done and how long that lasted. It is unbelievable. So you give that credit.”
This is not the first time Isiah Thomas has made an argument for LeBron James as the GOAT. In fact, he had always believed that when James broke Kareem’s all-time scoring record, he would make a compelling case for being the greatest basketball player of all time.
At the end of the day, when it comes to making the final choice for the GOAT. Isiah Thomas certainly seems to tilt toward Kareem and LeBron. NBA fans may not agree with him, but that’s his opinion.
Who Is The GOAT Among Michael Jordan, LeBron James, And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?
Ever since LeBron James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record, he has gained a lot of points for being considered the GOAT. But there is only one way to settle the GOAT debate, and that’s by using stats.
In our all-time GOAT pyramid, we compared the careers of some of the best players in the NBA and reached the conclusion that Jordan is the GOAT.
For most fans, the GOAT debate comes down to between LeBron James and Michael Jordan. However, when we do a full comparison between James and Jordan, the Bulls legend comes out on top.
If that’s not enough, a quick comparison between James and Jordan’s accolades in the NBA further bolsters the case for MJ being the GOAT.
All things considered, LeBron still has a shot at surpassing Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time. But for that to happen, he needs to win at least a couple of more NBA Championships before retiring from the league.
