As the Straw Hat Pirate’s swordsman, Zoro has showcased his incredible skill many times.
Roronoa Zoro, the unofficial first mate of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, stands out among the show’s laundry list of characters as one of the toughest, most loyal, and most courageous pirates. Zoro proves to be an invaluable asset to Luffy’s crew, as he always puts his crew mates before himself while fighting.
From challenging Mihawk to fighting Big Mom and Kaido at the same time, fear is not in Zoro’s vocabulary since he capitalizes on every opportunity to become stronger no matter who he is up against. Thus, Zoro has many moments where he wows viewers with his exceptional sword-fighting capabilities.
10. Zoro One-Shots Hody Jones
Zoro takes on Hody Jones, the leader of the New Fish-Man Pirates, but at a serious disadvantage, fighting underwater where he cannot breathe. Hody has no problem fighting underwater since he is a Fish-Man, so he becomes arrogant when he knows he has the upper hand.
Nevertheless, Zoro slices Hody’s body so fast that Hody could not react quickly enough to dodge. Hody severely underestimates Zoro’s capabilities and embarrasses himself by losing to a human underwater. Although Zoro’s attack does not kill Hody, it is nevertheless impressive that Zoro could accomplish this feat.
9. Zoro Cuts A Ship In Half
Luffy imparts a message to the members of his crew to become stronger and reunite after two years. From Usopp to Franky, everyone makes great strides as a result of their training. However, the person who arguably makes one of the most significant leaps among the Straw Hat Pirates is Zoro.
Zoro makes a dramatic entrance after the time skip by cutting an entire ship in half, demonstrating that his sword-fighting capabilities are similar to those of Mihawk. The fact that Zoro can cut vessels the way Mihawk could before the time skip illustrates the extent to which Zoro has grown.
8. Zoro Cuts Steel & Beats Mr.1
Baroque Works member Mr. 1 goes head-to-head against Zoro in Alabasta. Their fighting styles are similar, as they both win battles by cutting their opponents.
Zoro initially struggles to find a way to beat Mr. 1 because Mr. 1 can morph his body into steel, which Zoro cannot cut easily with his swords. Mr. 1 pushes Zoro to the brink of death, as Zoro becomes covered in blood. However, Zoro eventually learns how to cut steel and finds Mr. 1’s Achilles heel.
7. Zoro Cuts A Cliff With Enma
Zoro refuses to give up the Shusui sword despite the pleas of the samurai in Wano, so Kozuki Hiyori offers a compromise, allowing Zoro to wield the Enma sword instead. Zoro tests out the sword near a cliff to determine whether he should accept Enma.
Zoro unsheathes the sword and swings it through the air, cutting the cliff in front of him and consequently making everyone’s jaws drop. Although Zoro struggles to fully control Enma’s power, he becomes enamored with it and decides to keep it.
6. Zoro Uses Black Rope Dragon Twister Against Kaido
Witnessing Kaido capture Luffy galvanizes Zoro to act quickly. While Luffy is stuck in Kaido’s mouth, Zoro prepares for an attack that is strong enough to knock Luffy out of Kaido. Zoro’s acumen saves Luffy’s life, as Zoro performs the Black Rope Dragon Twister to force Kaido to spit Luffy out.
The other characters in the vicinity react to Zoro’s attack in shock, as he is one of the few characters who demonstrates the ability to penetrate Kaido’s scales. Thus, this moment is a testament to not only Zoro’s strength but also his ability to make smart decisions in dire situations.
5. Zoro Defeats Pica
Zoro combines the strengths of the gladiators from the Corrida Colosseum on Dressrosa to enable himself to triumph over Pica. Since Orlumbus can throw far, he launches Zoro at Pica to allow Zoro to be in range to attack. Zoro slices Pica in half with ease, thanks to Orlumbus’s efforts.
Zoro orders Elizabello II to save his punch for protecting Dressrosa for Pica’s collapsing body, so once Zoro cuts Pica, Elizabello II pushes Pica’s body away from the people in the city with his punch. Thus, Zoro’s strategy helps propel the rebels to victory against Doflamingo.
4. Zoro Blocks Big Mom & Kaido
Kaido and Big Mom unleash an attack called Conquest of the Sea during their fight against Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kid, and Killer. Conquest of the Sea appears to be an attack no one can evade, as the members of the Worst Generation Pirates stand hopelessly in front of it.
However, Zoro is the only pirate among them to step in to try and block the incoming attack. Zoro somehow musters the strength to protect his allies, and others around him are shocked by Zoro’s feat, but this does not come without a cost since Zoro receives a lot of damage in the process.
3. Zoro’s Nine Sword Style: Asura Silver Mist Beats Kaku
Zoro becomes embroiled in an intense fight with Kaku, a member of CP9, in the Water Seven Arc. They go back and forth trading blows with their swords. Kaku transforms into his giraffe form, enhancing his fighting capabilities against Zoro, but Zoro manages to stay on his feet.
Although Kaku gives Zoro a run for his money, dealing a few devastating blows, Zoro performs Nine Sword Style: Asura Silver Mist, which overwhelms Kaku. This attack enables Zoro to attack with nine swords simultaneously, giving him the edge to win the fight.
2. Zoro Avoids Execution In Wano
Samurai in Wano apprehend Zoro for wielding the Shusui sword, and they attempt to force Zoro to pay for his crimes. Zoro rebels against the Samurai, though, and he begins attacking all the samurai in the area. At one point he regains possession of the Shusui sword and decides to finish the fight once and for all with a single attack.
He spins himself while swinging his swords to generate a tornado that sends the samurai flying into the air. The samurai come falling to the ground once the tornado dissipates, showing that this attack is useful for defeating multiple opponents at once.
1. Zoro Protects Tashigi From Monet
Zoro sits on the sideline while Tashigi fights against Monet in Caesar’s Lab. Tashigi begins to lose the edge as the fight goes on, as Monet has greater strength. Thus, Zoro loses his patience and intervenes to end the fight immediately.
Zoro employs One Sword Style: Great Dragon Shock, which cuts Monet in half and carries Tashigi away from the scene. Monet does not die as a result of the attack since Zoro holds back. However, Zoro instills enough fear in Monet to prevent Monet from fighting back.
