When we think of the sea, we immediately think of sandy beaches, coconut trees or clear blue waters. However, the Red Beach in China completely makes us immediately change our thinking.
Located in Panjin town, Liaoning province, China, the scenery here always impresses those who visit. Different from the beaches in our imagination, the Red Sea every autumn is covered with an extremely brilliant red. However, the red color of this beach does not come from the color of the sand or silt, but from a special algae called Sueda Salsa.
The brilliant color of the Red Sea comes from a special type of algae
It is known that this type of algae begins to grow between April and May. In the summer, it still retains a clear green color. It is only in autumn, especially in October, that this algae gradually turns deep red and creates this beautiful scene. Even this Red Beach was dubbed by the local media as one of the “most romantic places in China”.
Besides the vibrant colors, this place is also famous for being a sanctuary for many rare animals. Home to 260 types of birds and 399 types of wildlife, including endangered species like the Crown Crane and Black Seagull, this popular beach has even been dubbed the “Homeland” of the crane”.
This place is also known as “The Homeland of Cranes”.
To keep the landscape and its animals safe, the area has been closed to tourists since 1988 and only a small area is open to tourists.
