A signed Marcus Rashford shirt from Manchester United sold for more than 10 times more than a Ryan Giggs equivalent – which couldn’t even make it to the £50 mark.
A Ryan Giggs shirt signed by the Manchester United legend flopped at a charity auction – going for less than 50 quid.
Despite bearing the name, signature and iconic number 11 of one of the most decorated footballers in history, the top fetched only £49.33. Meanwhile another signed shirt by present day United superstar Marcus Rashford has sold for 10 times that figure.
The Giggs blue 2005/06 away jersey was being auctioned on eBay by the British Heart Foundation after being given to them as a donation.
Giggs went on trial last summer accused of coercively controlling his partner, which he denied. A jury failed to reach any verdicts and he is set to face a retrial.
The 48-year-old spent the whole of his 24-year playing career at Old Trafford, winning 13 Premier Leagues, two Champions Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups. The framed Giggs’ shirt was put on sale at £9.99 and attracted just 14 bids.
Some cheeky fans tried to get it for just £10, £13 and £15, until it eventually went to a fan in Leeds. But even with Giggs’ autograph on it, it was £30.67 cheaper than a Man United 2022/23 shirt. They are £80 on the club’s official website.
Rashford, meanwhile, has been in superb form for the Red Devils this season, netting 17 times since domestic football returned after the World Cup.
The England star continued his impressive streak in midweek, bagging against Real Betis as Erik ten Hag’s side bounced back brilliantly from their 7-0 drubbing by Liverpool with a 4-1 win in the Europa League.
United face Southampton at Old Trafford on Sunday before travelling to Spain for the return leg against Betis, which should see them book their place in the quarter-finals, barring a miracle from the home side.
