Barcelona’s teenage star Gavi ‘thugs’ on football pitch outraged fans

Barcelona‘s Gavi showed he’s learnt the darker side to his midfield role at the Nou Camp by taking out Dani Ceballos during the El Clasico.

The LaLiga leaders extended their lead at the top of the table with a win over their arch-rivals on Sunday, which leaves Barcelona 12 points clear of Real Madrid.

Sergi Roberto cancelled out Ronald Areujo’s ninth-minute own goal, before Franck Kessie grabbed the winner for Xavi‘s men two minutes into stoppage time.

The victory means a title win seems almost inevitable for the Catalans now, but as well as the three points, Barca fans also loved the sight of their teenage midfielder getting stuck into Madrid midfielder Ceballos.

In a moment that came off the ball, Ceballos appeared to kick-out at Barca striker Robert Lewandowski and Gavi then took matters into his own hands.

The 18-year-old barged into his Spanish teammate, sending the former Arsenal player to the floor in a collision that went unnoticed by the referee.

Real Madrid fans called for Gavi to be shown the red card for the shove, but the Barcelona number six went unpunished for the incident.

It’s not the first time the two Spaniards have clashed on the pitch. The pair have previous, from when the famous rivals met in the Spanish Super Cup Final in January.

On as a late substitute and with Madrid 3-0 down, Ceballos grabbed a load of Gavi’s hair sparking a row between sets of players from both clubs.

Barcelona went on to win the game 3-1 thanks to goals from Pedri, Lewandowski and Gavi himself as Xavi’s side continue to dominate over Carlo Ancelotti’s men this season.

Ironically, it won’t belong before Gavi and Ceballos see each again either, with both being named in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for this week’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Spain play host to Norway on Saturday before travelling to Hampden Park next Tuesday to face Scotland in Group A, which also includes Georgia and Cyprus.
