Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been pictured for the first time since January as he steps up his comeback from injury.
Van de Beek sustained a knee injury in Manchester United’s win over Bournemouth in January and was subsequently ruled out for the season.
He shared a video on his Instagram page, with a grab below, accompanied by a comment: “Trust the process👊 Step by step💪🔥.”
In addition to working out with weights, Van de Beek was on the exercise bikes, showing a good range of mobility as he takes a step forward with his comeback.
It is not expected he is able to make a return this season, but the Dutchman will clearly be pushing to make a full recovery as quickly as possible.
Donny van de Beek faces an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the summer.
After signing for United in 2020 for £35 million, and failing to win over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he also failed to convince Ralf Rangnick, who sent him on loan to Everton.
The appointment of his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was supposed to revive his fortunes, but Van de Beek has failed to convince when he has had game time, and largely struggled with injuries.
He would love to get back to play this season, but this is probably unlikely. The last time he was pictured, he confirmed his campaign was over.
Van de Beek played just 294 minutes of action this season, and he is fast becoming a forgotten man.
Erik ten Hag’s United are leaving him behind, and while the manager knows what he is capable of, he surely can’t give him the game time he needs to rediscover his confidence.
For now the midfielder is just focused on getting back to full fitness, and it looks like he is visibly making good progress, and should be on track for pre-season.
