Marcus Rashford reveals the meaning behind his Manchester United goal celebration

Marcus Rashford is in the form of his life and Manchester United are reaping the rewards.

Rashford has scored 25 goals this season, including in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, making him one of the most in-form players in world football.

The 25-year-old is back to his best under manager Erik ten Hag after revealing struggles with his mental health during the last campaign.

He has also been putting a new celebration on show but many are wondering what the meaning behind it is.

What does Marcus Rashford’s new celebration mean?

After scoring, Rashford stands still and points to his temple, sometimes with his eyes closed.

The celebration suggests he is hinting at his recent mental health struggles and how focusing on that has become a priority.

In October, the United forward revealed he had been struggling last season.

He said: “It’s a complete different energy around the club and the training ground.

“That puts me in a better headspace and I just feel really motivated now. That’s the area I was struggling in.

“I was struggling at times with more mental things. It wasn’t really my own performance but other things off the pitch. That’s the biggest difference from last season.

“Too often last season, I wasn’t in the right headspace for games. I wasn’t surprised by some of the stuff that was happening.”

Therefore, the celebration is likely to show his head space is much better now and that is the key to his success over the last few weeks.

Others have since been seen following suit, including Manchester City hotshot Erling Haaland, tennis icon Novak Djokovic and England cricketer Jofra Archer.

And former United defender Rio Ferdinand has since revealed details from a conversation with Rashford about his celebration.

Speaking on his VIBE with FIVE podcast, Ferdinand said: “Rashford, I found out today, by the way, I went to Carrington today to interview Bruno [Fernandes], it was good.

“I saw [long-serving receptionist] Kath [Phipps], been there 56 years the lady! Ridiculous!

“But the celebration, it’s mentality. Nice, innit. Simple. But it’s just travelled massively.

“Everyone ‘round the world is doing it now. All the young kids scoring goals, that’s the impact Rashford has had.”
