A Facebook post with more than 21,000 shares purports to show images of a woman who gave birth to eleven babies. The claim uses two ᴍɪsʟᴇᴀᴅɪɴɢ images as evidence – one showing the famous American “Octomom” who gave birth to eight babies in 2009, and the other showing eleven babies born on the same day in India, to different mothers.
The claim from March 12, 2018, originally posted on Facebook on a Nigeria-based page, is now gaining traction in Kenya. The post urges Facebook users to type “God is great” and share the post quickly to receive their blessings.
A reverse search of the image showing ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ sᴛᴀꜰꜰ alongside a row of 11 newborns reveals several articles about a woman giving birth to 11 babies, dating back as far as 2012.

We looked at the background of the image for further clues. The group are pictured in front of a poster which reads, “Tᴇsᴛ Tᴜʙᴇ Bᴀʙʏ Cᴇɴᴛʀᴇ Sᴜʀᴀᴛ”.
A more specific Gᴏᴏɢʟᴇ ʀᴇᴠᴇʀsᴇ ɪᴍᴀɢᴇ sᴇᴀʀᴄʜ of the same photo with the search term “ᴛᴇsᴛ ᴛᴜʙᴇ ʙᴀʙɪᴇs Sᴜʀᴀᴛ” returns several articles ᴅᴇʙᴜɴᴋɪɴɢ claims that a woman had given birth to 11 babies in the city of Surat in western India.
In fact, the image was taken after the ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀʏ of 11 babies on November 11, 2011 in Surat at an Iɴ Vɪᴛʀᴏ Fᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ (I.V.F) center. Thirty women ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ nine months earlier at the same center. However, 11 of the couples wanted their babies born on the special 11/11/11 date and scheduled ᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴs for the ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀʏ, as reported by the Times of India.
After the birth, the I.V.F center posted the photos on the blog it was running at the time.
As for the second image, ᴘᴏʀᴛʀᴀʏɪɴɢ a heavily pregnant woman from the front and from the side, it shows an American woman named Nadya Suleman, also known as Natalie Suleman. Suleman was dubbed “Octomom” by the media in 2009 after she gave birth to eight babies, also through I.V.F ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ. She already had six children when she fell pregnant with the octuplets.
Multiple births are a ʜɪɢʜʟʏ ᴜɴᴄᴏᴍᴍᴏɴ ᴏᴄᴄᴜʀʀᴇɴᴄᴇ, and when they do, the odds of the infants sᴜʀᴠɪᴠɪɴɢ are quite slim. If something similar occurred, it would ᴜɴᴅᴏᴜʙᴛᴇᴅʟʏ be covered by news organizations. There are a few of these nonuplets (9 children born at once). However there are no records of any 11 children born simultaneously. Therefore, the myth about an Indian mother having 11 children at once is a ʜᴏᴀx, largely intended to ᴅᴇᴄᴇɪᴠᴇ people.
