Erling Haaland breaks Manchester City Premier League goal record in Bournemouth win but is still chasing Manchester United star Marcus Rashford

Erling Haaland’s goal against Bournemouth saw him break Sergio Agureo’s record for the most Premier League strikes by a Manchester City player in a single season.

The Norwegian striker netted his side’s second of the game as they went on to win 4-1 to keep chase with title rivals Arsenal.

Haaland’s strike was his 27th league goal for the campaign in just 24 appearances.

The honour was previously held by City legend Sergio Aguero, who scored 26 times in the 2014/15 season.

However, Haaland has now exceeded that tally with 13 games still left to play until the campaign’s conclusion.

His goal was also his 33rd across all competitions as he continues to shine since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

Although Haaland is still setting the Premier League alight, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is proving to be just as ruthless.

The 25-year-old has had the most direct involvements in top flight goals since the World Cup with 11.

Haaland is creeping behind on ten, although his form has not been as good as Rashford’s in recent weeks.

He has, however, once again proven to be crucial in City’s quest to retain their Premier League title.

Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden also scored before a Chris Mepham own goal helped close the gap on Arsenal to two points following their 1-0 win over Leicester, while Jefferson Lerma grabbed a consolation strike.

The result was a stark improvement from their previous two matches, 1-1 draws against Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig.

Pep Guardiola’s side still await another meeting against Arsenal, with the title race set to go to the wire.

It remains to be seen how many goals Haaland ends the season with, but there is no doubt his efforts will be key in their quest for success.
