What happened inside the Manchester United dressing room after Newcastle defeat…
Luke Shaw has explained how Manchester United players have been dealing with the defeat at Newcastle.
Luke Shaw was part of the Manchester United side which fell to a 2-0 loss at St James’ Park.
It was yet another away loss for the Red Devils, who have developed a very unhealthy knack of losing on the road this season.
Shaw was very despondent after the game, and said Manchester United players held their own inquisition without the staff.
Luke Shaw on players’ showdown
Luke Shaw was quoted by club media that the players must take the initiative to turn the situation around.
He explained: “The players had a chat in the changing room after with no staff around, because ultimately it’s down to us players on the pitch.
“It was nowhere near good enough and we had to speak. We have to speak out in front of each other.”
Shaw added that the team must battle together to get to the end of the season and finish the campaign strongly.
“We’re a team and when we go out on that pitch, we all need to fight for each other, we need to be there for each other – I think sometimes this season it hasn’t [looked] like that.
“It’s important that we realise the problems quick and change them around because we can still have a very good season.”
This was United’s seventh Premier League defeat of the season, and the club have a goal different of just ‘plus four’.
A top four place is still within our grasp, but it risks becoming a slog to get there if United can’t pick up form quickly.
Casemiro remains suspended for the next two fixtures, and United must find a way to win them without him, starting with the match at home to Brentford this Wednesday.
