The Dallas Cowboys worked out former first-round wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, Field Yates of ESPN reported. The Cowboys are coming off a season in which they fell in the NFC Divisional Playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers. The previous season, Dallas recorded 12 wins and a division title in 2021 before losing in the Wild Card round of the playoffs to San Francisco.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Treadwell ahead of the 2021 season and had a career season with the franchise, catching 33 passes for 434 yards and one touchdown. Treadwell has played in 76 career games in the NFL with 23 starts. Treadwell spent the 2020 season with the Atlanta Falcons and only played in five games while spending most of the year on the practice squad. That translated into six catches for 49 yards and a career-high two touchdowns.
The Minnesota Vikings selected Treadwell out of Ole Miss with the No. 23 pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent the first four years of his career with the Vikings and has 104 catches for 1,184 yards and five touchdowns in his NFL career.
“A lot of the routes that we throw are what Treadwell does,” Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said in April 2016. “After the season got over and you go through your year-end review, one of the things we talked about was that we wanted to get a big receiver with a big catching radius. We felt like with this football team, that was important for us to get some size out there.”
Treadwell rose to stardom at Ole Miss from 2013-15, leaving as the Rebels’ all-time leading pass catcher with 202 receptions — which was seventh-most in SEC history. He finished his three-year receiving career with 2,393 yards and 21 touchdowns in 35 games.
“I’m just a kid coming up and chasing a dream,” Treadwell said in April 2016. “You always want to go as high as possible, so I was surprised. But I think I fell to the right spot. It’s an amazing experience, honestly, but I was shocked. But I think I went to the right program and organization.”
Treadwell signed with the Rebels in 2013 out of Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School. An Under Armour All-American, he ranked as the No. 28 prospect nationally, No. 3 wide receiver and No. 1 prospect in the state of Illinois.
