Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat have been far from their best this season, the team has struggled to replicate the success they have enjoyed in seasons past. The Miami Heat are currently in the play-in tournament, despite having added Kevin Love to help bolster their roster. And while things may not be ideal, Love has high praise for his star teammate.
“You know, one of the best closers in the game,” Kevin Love said. “I’ll take Jimmy Butler pretty much over anyone in the league when it comes down to winning. When it comes down to 6 minutes, 4 minutes, 2 minutes, making the last play. That’s why he is who he is. He brings so much out of this team, he expects so much from himself, that’s why we love him. He leads us every single night.”
Kevin Love is a former NBA champion who has played alongside the likes of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. While James isn’t thought of as a clutch star, the stats show that he is very effective in closing out games. Kyrie Irving hit one of the most clutch shots in the modern era in the 2016 Finals. So this is a big thing for Kevin Love to have said about Jimmy Butler.
Jimmy Butler Hasn’t Been Too Happy With His Miami Heat Team This Season
Before they beat the struggling Dallas Mavericks, the Miami Heat had lost 3 games in a row themselves. Despite the Brooklyn Nets losing both of their stars, the Heat have not been able to catch them in the standings. And their play has been lackluster this season, something Butler himself addressed a while ago.
“I mean, I’m at a point now — I think everybody is — where it doesn’t surprise us,” Butler said. “We just really get bored with the process and I can’t tell you why and we play hard and sometimes we get back in the game like we did tonight and sometimes we don’t,” Butler said.
“Either way it goes, if we just play basketball the right way the entire game, I don’t think that we’re in that situation more often than not. But, for some odd reason, we think it’s gonna be easy, so we just go out there and go through the motions.”
He also spoke about how he wasn’t fully committed to the games before All-Star Break himself. While these comments from Love sound nice, the Heat and Butler will have a lot to figure out if they want to get back to the Eastern Conference Finals. Jimmy Butler will need to be at his very best moving forward.
