Plenty of celebrities have called Surrey home through the years, including some massive Hollywood A-listers. It’s easy to see why given the fantastic schools and lovely countryside manors you’ll find in the county.
Some of the most famous actors to have grown up in the county include two superheroes. Spidermen actors Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland both grew up in Surrey.
Whilst Andrew was raised in Epsom, Tom spent his formative years in Kingston-upon-Thames. The town and borough has been part of Greater London since 1965, but to this day, many feel it’s still a part of Surrey.
Tom Holland was born on June 11, 1996 into a very creative family. His father, Dominic Holland is a broadcaster and comedian whilst Tom’s mother Nikki Holland is a photographer. The A-lister also has three younger brothers – Sam, Harry and Paddy. Harry was actually cast in Spider Way No Way Home alongside Tom.
Tom still lives in Kingston, nearby to his parent’s house and he has been spotted in the town many times and is often greeted by fans who want a selfie. Back in 2018, he was pictured with now girlfriend Zendaya outside Kingston railway station.
n his formative years, Tom was educated at Donhead, which is an all-male Catholic preparatory school in Wimbledon. He then went to study at Wimbledon College before he was accepted at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. Plenty of other celebrities have attended this performing arts college including Jessie J, Amy Winehouse, and Adele.
Tom often talks about his family and what it’s like living in Kingston. During an appearance on the Graham Norton show when he was 23, the actor recounted a hilarious story about what it was like when he tried to go clubbing with his mum when he was 21.
The actor said that he was in a pub in town with his mum when she asked if he wanted to go out clubbing. Tom told Graham Norton: “We got to the door, I give them my ID, they left me in, and then they won’t let my mum in because she doesn’t have ID. And I’m trying to explain to the obviously dumb bouncer that I came out of her 21-years-ago.”
Tom clearly has an affinity for Kingston as he still lives in the borough. Earlier in the year, the 26-year-old squashed rumours that he had bought a new home in Richmond with his A-list girlfriend Zendaya.
During an interview on Live with Kelly he said: “I have had so many people call me up because I bought a new house in South London. Which is completely false, I didn’t buy a new house”.
Tom now owns a property in New York as well, but he still frequents Kingston. It was during an appearance on Ellen in 2017 that Tom revealed that he had moved into an apartment in the town that was a mere stone’s throw away from the house he grew up in. The actor had been looking for places for two years before his mum called him one day with some good news.
He told Ellen: “My mum rang me up while I was shooting reshoots…she was like, ‘Tom, I found the most amazing apartment. It’s two bedrooms. It’s lovely. You’ll love it. It’s brilliant.’ I was like, ‘Mum that sounds amazing, where is it?’
“You could literally throw a stone from my house to where it is. It’s like down the street from where I live.” He then said: “I was kind of planning to move out here to L.A., but now I’m only just moving five minutes away from my mum.”
