Erik ten Hag reveals Christian Eriksen ‘WILL play’ again this season, with the Manchester United boss claiming the Danish star’s rehab following a ligament injury in January ‘is going to plan’… and he could return next month
Erik ten Hag says Christian Eriksen will definitely play for Manchester United again this season as the Dane recovers from an ankle injury.
Eriksen suffered ligament damage when he was hurt in a challenge by Reading striker Andy Carroll in United’s FA Cup win over the Championship side in January.
The initial prognosis was that Eriksen would be out of action until late April or early May.
That still appears to be the likely comeback period with Ten Hag saying the former Tottenham and Inter Milan star’s rehabilitation is ‘going to plan’ – although he has no chance of returning before the international break at the end of this month.
‘I think he will play, yeah, definitely,’ said the United boss. ‘I can’t tell now an expectation, but I think his progress in the rehab is OK. It’s going according to plan, so we will definitely see him but not before the international break.’

Asked if Eriksen, who was seen celebrating with his teammates after the Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle at Wembley two weeks ago, is involved in team meetings, Ten Hag added: ‘Yes, he is. But his main focus in this moment is to get back as soon as possible because we need all the players.’
Donny van de Beek is United’s other long-term absentee after it was confirmed that he will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury he suffered in the win over Bournemouth in January.
However, Ten Hag is confident his fellow Dutchman will be fit to return in time for pre-season and United’s summer tour of America.
United are back in Premier League action for the first time since being hammered 7-0 at Liverpool last weekend when they take on Southampton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
