Defeated Oldham on Saturday and now have just six games to go
Wrexham have attracted a lot of attention since American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney decided to take over the club back in 2021.
Their primary objective has been to return to the English Football League (EFL), but the Welsh side narrowly missed out on promotion in their first season at the club.
The first season of the series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ instantly became popular, with the team attracting fans from all around the world.
This year, Phil Parkinson‘s men are considered favourites to clinch promotion if they manage to remain consistent until the end of the campaign.
Wrexham are currently top of the National League table, having defeated Oldham Athletic 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Eoghan O’Connell, Elliott Lee and a Paul Mullin hat-trick put Wrexham onto 100 points, which means they are three points ahead of Notts County and with a game in hand too for the Welsh side.
There is a huge direct clash coming up on April 10, as Wrexham will host Notts County in a game that could help them clinch promotion.
What does Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham team need to be promoted in 2023?
Should Wrexham win their other game in hand and come out victorious from the duel against Notts County, they could win the league on April 15 at Barnet with three games to go.
That would secure promotion and it would be the first time they will feature in the EFL League Two since 2007/08, when they finished bottom of the table and were relegated to the Conference National.
“The lads are really focused, they don’t get carried away with anything and just keep working on the training pitch,” Parkinson said on Friday.
“We purely concentrate on what we do on the field and on the training pitch.

“Standards are very high here and we’re looking to maintain those standards.”
If, however, Wrexham drop into second place then they’d have to enter the second-to-seventh playoff, and battle their way to promotion through knockout matches.
