On July 7th, the latest movie about Spider-Man: Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland will officially hit theaters.
Before that, Tom Holland also debuted his role as Spider-Man in the 2016 Marvel superhero series, Captain America: Civil War .
However, the 21-year-old actor honestly shared that it was not easy for him to get the role of Peter Parker.
“I’ve been through eight auditions, but the worst thing about it is that every time they audition, they say to me ‘we’ll let you know the results tomorrow,'” says Tom.
“And during the last audition, I was asked to stay in Atlanta because if I got the part, I would have to start shooting just two days later. I stayed in Atlanta for two weeks and then came back because I was sure I wouldn’t pass.”
However, things came to a surprise after Tom returned to London. It wasn’t until 6 weeks later that he knew he had been selected and only 2 days later he was on a plane to the set of Captain America: Civil War .
After weeks of waiting, one day, Tom was sitting in bed and surfing Instagram, suddenly saw the content “Visit our website to know who the new Spider-Man is”.
“I go there, and the result is my name. I was like crazy. I ran downstairs and told my family.
My brother Harry at the time said ‘no, Sony Pictures account has been hacked. People call newspapers now,” Tom recalled his “crazy” moment to Interview Magazine.
Then it was true that Tom Holland received a real call.
“The movie producer Kevin Feige called me and said he had good news that I was going to be Spider-Man,” Tom said.
“Oh I know, Kevin. I saw it on Instagram. I was 19 years old. Do you think I won’t see that announcement,” the future Spider-Man replied slyly.
Besides Tom Holland, Spiderman: Homecoming will also feature young actors such as Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya , Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and “Iron Man billionaire” Robert Downey Jr.
Although the film has not been released yet, the producers have considered making a sequel, setting the entire release date as July 5, 2019.
