Henry Cavill, being the epitome of a perfect gentleman, portrayed the role of Superman in the 2013 movie Man of Steel. The actor is highly regarded as one of the most amazing actors in Hollywood and he completely transforms himself to match well with the characters that he portrays. But his Superman was a little different, as he did not have a “no kill” rule.
That all changed in 2013 when during an intense moment in Man of Steel, Cavill’s Superman snaps the neck of General Zod during the final sequence. The scene was considered a bit brutal for the people and allegedly did not fit Cavill’s persona. People, however, took to Twitter to defend the actor on his acting skills and hailed the scene as one of the finest scenes in the history of cinema ever.
Henry Cavill’s Superman in Man of Steel (2013)Henry Cavill Is Not A Purist For His “No Kills” Rule
Being Henry Cavill’s first role as Superman in the 2013 movie, Zack Snyder and Cavill set out to create a vision for the DCEU that would change the entire superhero industry. With fans pressurizing studios and hailing directors as gods, it all started when Cavill’s Superman snapped the neck of General Zod in Man of Steel.

Being a fan of the finer arts of cinema, Zack Snyder has no problems with violence. Reminding the people that the world is indeed brutal, Snyder brings in the essence of the real world by showcasing problems up-front (in this case…violence). The neck-snapping scene in the 2013 movie, however, became infamous for being too brutal for a DC movie. When General Zod was about to kill the people, in a moment of dichotomy, Superman had to twist his neck and end his life (even though it killed him from the inside).
Although shot masterfully, the scene was considered out of character for Henry Cavill‘s character since this was something too intense that he had not been seen doing before. The people took to Twitter to discuss the scene and whether it was justified or not.

After Zack Snyder made a controversial walk-out off the DC Studios, Henry Cavill soon departed from the franchise too when James Gunn and Peter Safran became co-heads. The actor although has many notable acting gigs to his name, will always be remembered as one of the finest Supermans to exist on this Earth.
Henry Cavill’s Superman Is Getting A Replacement
Henry Cavill in Mission: Impossible – Fallout
With the future of DCU in the hands of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the need for a Superman increases day by day. Although Henry Cavill was and is the perfect Superman, the lore of the cinematic universe wanted a younger Superman to really develop.
Notable host John Rocha and insider Jeff Sneider recently talked about this replacement who will get to build upon the legacy of Cavill.
“The one note that agencies have right now for Superman is ‘young, young, young.’ So I am now expecting Superman, the actor who’s going to be playing him, to be in his early to mid-twenties. That’s my new forecast: 22-26 years old.”
Sneider further stated that the average model for a young actor is in reference to a young Chris Pratt-type actor that can take on the mantle and be called the next Superman. The Henry Cavill starrer and Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel is available to stream on HBO Max.
