Mohamed Salah makes Arsenal admission after scooping Liverpool award
Mohamed Salah hopes that Liverpool’s performance in their draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal will provide a boost for the upcoming run.
The Reds star was on target against Mikel Arteta’s side as he fired home to halve the deficit on the stroke of half-time. After the break, Diogo Jota was brought down by Rob Holding providing an opportunity for the Egpytian to equalise from the penalty spot but he squandered his effort firing wide for the second time this season.
Liverpool rose to eighth as a result of the point but the share of the spoils meant that Jurgen Klopp’s men failed to close the gap between them and the top four.
Salah was awarded the Standard Charter Player of the Month for the second time this season after winning the award for December. During March, he became the club’s all-time Premier League goalscorer overtaking Robbie Fowler after netting in the rout over Manchester United.
Three of the Reds’ upcoming games are against teams in the lower reaches of the Premier League table with two of those coming away from Anfield – Leeds United on Monday then West Ham in the penultimate game of the month.
And Salah hopes their positive second-half showing against the north London side can be the spark for a strong end to, what has been, an inconsistent season.
Sadio Mane suspended by Bayern Munich after punching Leroy Sane
Sadio Mane has been suspended by Bayern Munich following an altercation with Leroy Sane after Manchester City’s 3-0 win on Tuesday.
The story has developed throughout the day as the two Bavarian forwards returned to first-team training following their bust-up in light of their Champions League first-leg defeat. It has been reported that the ex-Red was upset by the manner he was spoken to after a passage of play late in their clash at the Etihad Stadium.
It has been reported that the matter led to a ‘loud discussion’ taking place between the pair after the game. After Mane voiced his complaints, the pair had to be ‘separated’ and after the 31-year-old is said to have landed a punch on the lip of the former Manchester City forward.
And on Thursday afternoon, there was confirmation that he will not be in the squad to face TSG Hoffenheim this weekend. In addition, the former Liverpool star will be fined.
In a statement from Bayern Munich on their official website, they said: “Sadio Mané, 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim.
“This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mané will also be given a fine.”
