The film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical Wicked has been preparing for a long time. Fortunately, big-screen production has made serious progress over the past few years, and John M. Chu of “Crazy Rich Asians” has been appointed director. The film also has two main roles in the person of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who play Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Since their casting, fans have been eager to get a look at these two in their witchy roles. Well, the day has finally come when both actresses shared their first official views on their iconic characters in the prequel “The Wizard of Oz”.
The stars have shared the images on their Instagram accounts, and while these are just small teasers, they should be more than enough to excite fans. In the photo of Cynthia Erivo, she is depicted in an iconic black suit with a hat and a broom. And if you look closely, you can also see the green skin that the talented actress is rocking for the role. Check it out below:
In the image of Glinda, Ariana Grande’s outfit is obviously at the opposite end of the spectrum. An actress in a bright pink dress climbs a spiral staircase. Take a look for yourself at the appearance of the actress and singer in the production on the big screen:
Yes, these production photos are the definition of teasing, but they are absolutely cute. Those who have long adored Stephen Schwartz’s play will surely be pleased not only with the appearance chosen for the two main characters, but also with the look at the production from Oz (sorry). It was expected that Warner Bros. they will want it to be a big production for the big screen, and these two photos alone serve as proof of this idea.
However, it is likely that after these discoveries, music fans will demand real footage from Wicked, which should be adapted as two feature films. Most are probably most excited to hear Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande perform the very recognizable tunes of the musical, including the stunning “Defying Gravity.” I bet there won’t be such a teaser for quite some time, unfortunately.
The two stars, to put it mildly, have serious problems as they follow in the footsteps of Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who created Elphaba and Glinda respectively on Broadway. The two stars have since discussed the upcoming film, and when the two main actors were announced, Chenoweth and Menzel reacted with delight and support. Chenoweth praised the role of Grande, whom she has known for many years. And although Menzel admitted that she is “a little sad” that she is no longer playing Elphaba, she is “very excited” about what her successor is doing with this role.
The first teasers of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo foreshadow what is coming. We still have a lot of time before the first part of the two-part adaptation of Wicked is released in theaters, but if these posts are any indication, then more images of BTS should periodically appear in the coming months as production progresses. You will be able to see the first film when it opens in theaters on November 27, 2024.
