The images show a snake hanging from the gutter of a woman’s home in Agnes Waters, Queensland, eating the head of a parrot. The photos were taken by the home’s owner and sent to Stuart McKenzie, a snake keeper, who then posted them online.
Mr. McKenzie says that carpet pythons, which can grow up to three meters long, often feed on small animals and third parties. They are opportunists and ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋ any third party that lands too much ᴄʟᴏsᴇ for them. According to him, the parrot was hit by the python because it proƄatly fell on it too much while it was asking questions and relaxing.
I knew that they frequently broke into the chicken coops to eat chickens, since there had been cases in which they had eaten small animals such as guinea pigs. All small dogs and cats can occasionally be eaten by them.
He said they would Bɪᴛᴇ and squeeze their prey down to ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ before starting to swallow it. Although it wasn’t the largest snake in the country, it was the largest and most common on the Sunshine Coast, where he lay.
By his calculations, the average-sized carpet python in the images is between 1.5 and 2 meters long. After eating the parrot, the snake “rests” for a few days to digest it. Carpet pythons can sting you terribly even though they are not ᴘᴏɪsᴏɴᴏᴜs.
