Kujaku is a rear admiral who is likely to get more attention in the next few chapters
One Piece chapter 1080 introduced fans to a bunch of powerful Marines. While the vast majority of the story is told from the perspective of pirates, One Piece 1080 flipped the script and told the story from the side of the Marines for a change. Garp, the Legendary Hero of the Marines, led a raid on Hachinosu, the Pirate Island, ruled by Yonko Blackbeard in order to save his protege, Koby.
Koby was abducted by Blackbeard on Amazon Lily and he planned on using him as a bargaining chip in an attempt to make the Pirate Island an officially recognized country. While Blackbeard was out fighting against Trafalgar Law for the Road Poneglyphs, Garp attacked the Pirate Island to secure the freedom of his successor. While he was certainly the highlight of the Marine unit, there were several other powerful characters introduced to the fans as well. These included some who fans are already familiar with, such as Tashigi, and Helmeppo, as well as new characters which included Prince Grus, Hibari, and, of course, Kujaku.
The Introduction Of Marine Rear Admiral Kujaku
Kujaku was one of the very first Marine members introduced to the fans in One Piece chapter 1080 when the raid on Hachinosu began. It was revealed immediately that she is a member of the SWORD unit of the Navy and that she holds the position of a Rear Admiral. For those who don’t know, SWORD includes Marines who have already submitted their resignation. In essence, they are Marines but they have given up on their Marine code. This means that they are not bound to orders and can do as they like on the seas. Things such as attacking an Emperor head-on or doing other dangerous tasks that would require a Marine to follow the marine protocol don’t apply to them.
In exchange, the Marines can cut them off anytime and do not take responsibility for their actions, if the situation arises. Kujaku is a Rear Admiral of this unit and that already means that she holds a very high position. Being active in the New World means that she is tremendously powerful and fans got a display of that in One Piece chapter 1080, when she was able to face an island full of pirates with a composed personality and a smile on her face. Being a Marine Rear Admiral means that Kujaku is one of the higher-ranking members of the group and above the likes of Marine Captain Koby and Lieutenant Helmeppo. She shares the rank of Rear Admiral with Prince Grus, meaning these two are the strongest of their group in SWORD so far, however, after Drake, who fans last saw in Wano Country.
Her Connection To Tsuru
One of the most interesting things about Kujaku that was revealed to the fans in One Piece chapter 1080 was her connection to Tsuru. As fans know, Tsuru is a legendary Marine who was a part of the generation of Garp. Along with Garp and Sengoku, she was believed to be among the three mightiest Marines of that age. While Sengoku ended up being promoted to the rank of Fleet Admiral, both Garp and Tsuru held on to their position as vice Admirals for their own reasons. That is not to say that Tsuru is weak. During her days as an active Marine, even Doflamingo avoided taking her on in combat on every single occasion and fans have already gotten a taste of how strong Doflamingo is.
The fact that Kujaku is the granddaughter of such a legendary Marine means that she will have a more pronounced role in the story. In essence, Kujaku is a part of the next generation of the Navy that will eventually reshape the entire structure of this organization. Just as Koby is the protege of Garp and, in some ways, like his grandson, Kujaku is the granddaughter of Tsuru. While this does open up the room for Sengoku’s grandchild, fans do not know much about that just yet. Being the granddaughter of Tsuru means that Kujaku has a lot of potential as she is from an exalted bloodline. It also means that she has big boots to fill as Tsuru is held in legendary light, especially for her combat prowess as well as her wisdom.
The Powers Of Rear Admiral Kujaku
From what the fans have seen so far, Kujaku is exceptionally skilled. She appears to be a user of a Devil Fruit that belongs to the Paramecia class. Her Devil Fruit is known as the Muchi Muchi no Mi and it allows her to turn any object that she touches into a whip. This whip can then be used to whip others and those who she whips are bound to obey her command. This makes her a disciple woman. Any person whipped by Kujaku’s whips will break and end up doing as she says. Although they might show a bit of resistance at first, the more Kujaku degrades and insults them, the further they start to crumble and eventually give in. The incredible aspect of this ability is the fact that it isn’t restricted to living beings. Inanimate objects, such as buildings, can be affected by it as well.
Kujaku was seen whipping buildings in chapter 1080 and eventually, the buildings started moving and following her orders. She laid out an extensive plan and trapped all the pirates on the island by surrounding them with buildings on all sides. This opened up room for Garp to jump in and deliver a powerful punch packed with the Color of the Supreme King, called Galaxy Impact. As the raid of Hachinosu progresses, fans will likely see more of Navy Rear Admiral Kujaku and her abilities.
