The Boston Celtics have been one of the NBA’s best teams all season long, so it’s only fit fitting that a Celtic should get rewarded with one of the most prestigious individual accolades in the game.
Announced on Thursday, the NBA has officially named Malcolm Brogdon as the winner of the Sixth Man of the Year award, surpassing Immanuel Quickley and others to get the nod for his efforts off the bench.
Brogdon averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game on 48.4% shooting this season and was a consistent force for the Cs offensively all year long. Thanks to his contributions, and the combined powers of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Boston cruised through the regular season, and there is faith that they can pull off something special in this postseason.
Can The Celtics Win The Title This Year?
It remains to be seen how the Cs will stack up against the Bucks or 76ers in a best-of-seven series, but they have everything they need to go all the way.
If not, then we can expect the team to be aggressive in adding talent and doing everything they can to ensure Jaylen Brown is locked-in for the long haul.
“I feel great,” Brown said about his situation. “I’m on a 50-win team right now that you can’t take for granted. Tonight was the 50th win. And right now, I’m focused on helping to lead my team for another playoff run. In terms of speculation, et cetera, I can’t speculate on anything above what I’m doing right now. I think sometimes when people write articles they get taken out of context, especially when writers have their own agendas or whatever. So for me personally, I’m thinking about clarifying some of the things that have been recently said. But other than that, I’m just focused on my team. I’m focused on playing basketball and winning games.”
No matter what happens with Jaylen or the Celtics this summer, they must keep their focus on the season at hand and ensure they don’t let this opportunity go to waste.
Thankfully, they’ve got a strong roster with a lot of star power, experience, and depth that now also includes the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year.
