While he had made some extremely good films in the past, the role of Spider-Man in the MCU gave a boost to the career of Tom Holland so much that he has become a world-renowned actor, and rightfully so. His depiction of Peter Parker’s character was on point, to the extent that he rightfully personified Peter Parker from the comics.

But to get the role of the amazing web-slinger from New York City, the star had to excel at the tough and stringent selection process that Marvel Studios is infamous for. And while he might be the face of Spider-Man now, there was one instance during his audition process when someone told him he was ugly to become the superhero.

While he may have taken his leave from being the friendly-neighborhood Spider-Man from Marvel Studios, Tom Holland is still fondly remembered to don the mask of the superhero during his time in the MCU alongside The Avengers. And for his role, he had to do everything in his power to successfully bag it, which is a little hard to do when someone tells you that you aren’t good-looking enough to play the part on screen right before the auditions.
During an interview with Graham Norton on his talk show, the Uncharted star, along with his girlfriend, Euphoria star Zendaya, and former DCEU star Henry Cavill were talking and answering questions and sharing their stories. Here, Holland remembered the time when he was going to Atlanta for his audition to play Peter Parker, and while he was in the car, the driver had something to say about the star’s appearance.
Holland recalled the incident, saying:
“He’s [the driver] looking me in the mirror, and he’s doing that thing, he’s looking at me. He goes ‘You know what kid? I think you’re gonna get it.’ I am like ‘Really, Why?’ I was excited to hear that, and he goes like ‘I think you’re gonna get it because the kid that I just drove there, he’s so good-looking.’ That’s excatly the confidence boost I need”
Although it might not have been what he wanted to hear, Holland did eventually get the role, and the rest is history.
What Made Tom Holland A Unique Peter Parker?

The most crucial factor that made Tom Holland’s portrayal of the teenage superhero was the almost picture-perfect adaptation and resemblance of the character from the comic books. The star was able to bring the child-like rebellion and flair from the early parts of his origin story while also being able to develop the character as the MCU progressed. Here, what was also different was the fact that he was trying to find himself and who he wants to become in the world of superheroes, something that other films before didn’t do.
