Over the past decade, the superhero genre has dominated the film industry, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and DC Extended Universe (DCEU now DCU) leading the charge. But both of the universes had to face some real failure in the last year. MCU’s Chris Hemsworth starrer Thor: Love and Thunder and DCU’s Dwayne Johnson starrer Black Adam; both the movies were not received well by fans.
Many believed that both movies were flops. But as per the recent reports neither of the films was a flop as they both managed to drive profits to the pockets of their makers. But it looks like even in this scenario, MCU took over DCU as Chris Hemsworth starrer Thor: Love and Thunder was able to generate much more than the DCU’s Black Adam.
A still from Thor: Love and ThunderChris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder Is Definitely A Hit
As per recent reports Thor: Love and Thunder performed pretty well at the box office. Thor: Love and Thunder brought in a whopping $760.9 million at the global box office, with $343.2 million in the US and $417.6 million internationally. While this is a decrease from the $855 million that Thor: Ragnarok pulled in, it’s worth noting that Thor: Love and Thunder missed out on the Chinese and Russian markets, where Ragnarok grossed a total of $135.9 million.
Many assumed that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder is a failure because it has the second lowest rating among MCU movies. If we compare the production cost of Thor 4 with its earnings, then, it’s estimated that the movie generated a profit of around $103 million. So, it was not a flop, and in fact, it did quite well. If only the movie would have been released in China and Russia, it would have oversold its predecessors.
Black AdamDwayne Johnson’s Black Adam Lacked Behind Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder
Dwayne Johnson’s dream project Black Adam has failed to impress the audience, and the earnings of the films were not stated clearly prior. But as per the reports, Black Adam too is away from the tag of being a flop, as the movie was able to gross profits worth $52 million to $72 million. But if you compare these reported profits with MCU’s Thor 4, then it’s evident that Thor 4 has done significantly better than Black Adam. Fans on the other hand seemed pretty convinced that Black Adam is a financial disaster.

Despite the proof that both the movies are financial successes, it still does not change the fact that both of them failed to deliver an impact on the audience, but even in these bad times MCU is better than DCU. It is evident that MCU movies are performing better than DCU movies at the box office. Thor: Love and Thunder is currently available on Disney +.
