Volunteers are hoping for a Christmas miracle as they call for new homes for seven puppies of a stray dog who froze to death after getting too hungry and exhausted.
The healthy looking puppies, four males and 3 females, were found in -20C cold next to the motionless mother dog by a resident of Yemelyanovo, a settlement north of regional capital Krasnoyarsk.
‘We are in fact at a loss of what happened. Perhaps the mother dog was poisoned by some heartless people, or else why did the big animal die and her puppies survived?’, a local told animal rights campaigners.
It was the owners of Homeless_Dog_Krsk who called for help and organised a fundraising campaign.
The volunteers spent two days trying to catch the puppies who did not want to leave the frozen body of their mother.
Eventually they were all taken to a warm shelter where they were given food and first aid.
‘They are fluffy with good undercoats, they’ll be of average size and will do well both in a flat or as security guards,’ said the shelter staff.
‘We are looking for new owners and will keep an unobtrusive eye on how the puppies are doing.
‘We will also help the owners with sterilisation in the future.’
