As Patrick Mahomes makes headlines for his accomplishments on the field, his family often raises eyebrows for off-the-field antics.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s support system includes his father, Pat Mahomes, his mother, Randi Martin, brother Jackson Mahomes and wife Brittany Matthews. The football star and his high school sweetheart got engaged in September 2020.
“On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us. It’s always us, it’s always you and me,” Matthews wrote via Instagram after the proposal, which went down one day after Patrick’s 25th birthday. “The words you looked into my eyes and said to me at this moment, will NEVER leave my mind! You made this day perfect, you took my entire breath away and I could not have imagined anything better. I love you, forever and always! Cheers to spending our lifetime together and an inseparable bond🎉💕.”
The pair went on to welcome daughter Sterling in February 2021. Earlier that same month, Matthews supported Patrick at the Super Bowl LV and slammed coverage comparing her man to Tom Brady after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Big Game.
“Cool ESPN, love the support of a major sports platform for one of the best players in the league,” she tweeted at the time. In another post, she shaded SportsCenter’s photo choice, writing, “Y’all are [trash can emojis] for this too, but he looks damn good to me.. … Not how we wanted it to end, but 15 played his heart out and I’m always and forever proud of him in everything he does. Now let’s have a baby!”
Matthews gave birth to daughter Sterling in 2021 and son Bronze in 2022.
As Matthews continued to cause controversy via her social media activity, Jackson was also in the spotlight during the 2021-2022 season, with Patrick being forced to field questions about a video of his sibling throwing water on Ravens fans trolling his family after a September 2021 loss.
“Obviously, it’s something we don’t want to necessarily do,” he told the media. “There were things that were said to him and [Brittany] that you don’t see on the clip. He’s been good at trying not to respond to that stuff. He takes a lot and he’s usually pretty good at it and he’ll learn from it and try to stay away from those people as best he can.”

Brittany Starts Taking to Social
As Patrick’s career took off, Brittany often started clapping back during games. In October 2020, she called out the refs, writing, “Everyone wearing black and white on the field today are on the same team.” She caught flack the following month for her response over a controversial roughing the passer penalty, tweeting, “Sorry, you can’t touch him.”
Matthews has acknowledged getting backlash for her posts. “This is definitely something that I’ve had to learn how to handle at this point I just don’t respond to them anymore, I learned that the more I let them get to me, the more that’s what they want to hear. So, ultimately I just don’t respond,” she said in October 2020 via Instagram Stories. ”Yes people can be very mean and you have to have a tough skin and be strong and know that those people’s opinions don’t matter and just don’t respond or engage with them at all on social media.”
In October 2021, she called out the officials again, writing, “Refs are never in our favor. … Ever. … I said what I said. Y’all are so mad.” That same month, she fired back at another social media user, “In the nicest way possible … Shut up.”

Patrick’s Mom Get Involved
Brittany isn’t the only one who takes to the internet during Chiefs’ games. Randi has called out announcers for not referring to her son by his full name — Patrick — and in January 2021, she referred to Mack Wilson as “evil” after the Browns linebacker tackled her son. “#51 evil NEVER WINS!!! Love my Chiefs,” Randi wrote at the time.
Wilson tweeted back, “No disrespect mom I’m just playing hard. This is a dangerous game we play and we take a risk every time we step foot on the field. I’m happy that Pat is okay but mind you.. I’ve never been a dirty player. I just want to win and be great like your son. 🙏🏾❤️.”

Water-Gate
After a video surfaced of Jackson pouring water on Ravens fans who were taunting him after a Chiefs loss, he responded via social media, writing, ”They were thirsty.”

Jackson’s TikTok Drama
Patrick’s brother, who is often seen dancing on the sidelines, was in hot water in October 2021 when he was caught making a TikTok while standing on the late Sean Taylor’s number, which was painted on the field for a number retirement ceremony.
“I want to sincerely apologize for accidentally being on the Sean Taylor #21 at FedEx Field,” Jackson tweeted at the time. “We were directed to stand in that area and I meant absolutely no disrespect to him or his family.”

Jackson’s Bar Drama
After Jackson took to Instagram Stories to call the service at Kansas City restaurant SoT “absolutely terrible” and the servers “so rude,” the bar fired back.
“Dear @jacksonmahomes, we are sorry that we set boundaries that you tried to ignore. Often times people with un-earned status and a sense of entitlement think they are above the rules and will lash out at the employee enforcing them,” SoT said at the time. “We are sorry we could not seat your very large group. As you probably saw, our bar is very small. We are sorry that you have the reach that you do, or at least that you think you do and that instead of using it for something positive you decided to use it to try and crush a small business. We survived a global pandemic, we’ll survive your ego. We are sorry you didn’t reach out to us first before taking to social media, but then again that is an expectation we would have from a mature and rational person, not someone who pours water on fans and dances on the memorials of tragically lost people for TikTok clout.”

Champagne-Gate
Matthews was criticized in January 2022 after she sprayed champagne on fans in cold weather after the Chiefs won a playoff game. She responded at the time: “I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week.”

Date Night Drama
Patrick and Matthews both fired back in February 2022 when social media users criticized a video of them courtside at a Texas Tech vs. Baylor game.
“Man people are weird… love you babe @brittanylynne8 ❤️,” he tweeted at the time, to which she replied, “I love you ❤️🙏🏼.”

Disinvited?
The NFL pro wasted no time shutting down a report that he no longer wanted Matthews or Jackson at his games because they are a “distraction” and “their sideline antics are bad for his brand.”
Patrick responded in February 2022, “Y’all just be making stuff up these days 😂😂😂.” Matthews, for her part, called it “quite hysterical” that fans find it “cool” to attack the couple.

Post-Game Snub?
Some TikTok users couldn’t help but comment when Patrick didn’t acknowledge his brother when Jackson was recording a post-game video after the Chiefs secured a spot in Super Bowl LVII in January 2023. In the clip, the football star kissed his wife and daughter and seemingly gave his sibling a quick glance with an annoyed look on his face before walking away.

Bengals Shade
Both Patrick’s dad and wife trolled the Cincinnati Bengals after the Chiefs beat the Ohio team in the AFC Championship in January 2023.“Cancun on 3 ✌🏼,” Matthews tweeted at the time, turning Bengals cornerback Eli Apple’s previous shade at the Buffalo Bills back onto him.
Patrick Sr., meanwhile, told reporters he was “smoking on that Joe Burrow” as he smoked a cigar on the field during post-game celebrations. (Burrow is the QB for the Bengals.)

Super Bowl Interview Crash
After winning Super Bowl LVII in February 2023, Patrick’s brother, Jackson, accidentally crashed one of his post-game interviews. “The offensive line, how they played in the second half that’s the reason we won this game,” the quarterback said while speaking to an NFL correspondent.
Fans, however, were distracted from the discussion as Jackson made what appeared to be a silly video of himself making a funny face on his phone. Jackson didn’t notice his brother on live TV as he made a kissy face and danced for his own camera. Twitter, meanwhile, wasn’t happy with Jackson’s background moves and took to the app to accuse him of stealing his brother’s thunder and “embarrassing” their family.

Jackson Under Investigation for Assault
Jackson made headlines in March 2023 after the Kansas City Star reported that he was under investigation after allegedly assaulting a restaurant owner and a waiter at a Kansas City establishment in late February.
“I was going into our office downstairs where the employees are in the employee area, and he’s downstairs for I don’t know what reason,” the waiter told the outlet about Jackson’s alleged assault. “And I’m trying to get to the office, and he’s like, pushing me out … And he’s like, ‘No, get out, get out.’”
The owner of the restaurant, Aspen Vaughn, further alleged that Jackson “forcibly kissed” her after asking to speak to her privately about the alleged incident involving the waiter.
“He forcibly kissed me out of nowhere, and I’m telling him, pushing him off saying, ‘What are you doing?’” Vaughn claimed. “And then he proceeded to do it two more times, where the last time I was pushing him off, and I can see on the cameras that somebody was outside the office door, and I was yelling for them to come help, because he’s big and massive.”
She also claimed that Jackson “was trying to say, ‘We should be a power couple,’ and I’m like, ‘Clearly you’re out of your mind right now.’”
Jackson’s lawyer denied the allegations.
“Jackson has done nothing wrong. Our investigation has revealed substantial evidence refuting the claims of Jackson’s accuser, including the statements of several witnesses,” his attorney Brandan Davies said. “We have reached out to law enforcement to provide the fruit of our investigation so that they may have a complete picture of the matter.”
In May 2023, Jackson was booked on three counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of misdemeanor battery charges.
