While driving on a road in Southeastern Kentucky, the Ringstaff family noticed a Great Pyrenees dog sitting still by the road. Although they initially kept driving, they felt concerned and decided to go back to check on the dog. As they got closer, they could see that the dog had been through a traumatic experience.

The Great Pyrenees dog was found standing by the decaying remains of his deceased companion who had been hit by a car. The dog himself had also suffered some injuries and was in a confused state. Upon inquiring about the dogs, the family learned more unsettling information about their history.

It seems that the dogs were owned by someone living locally who later moved to a different town. However, the owner abandoned the dogs and did not provide them with any care. Following a hit-and-run accident, several residents attempted to persuade the surviving dog to come with them, but the dog refused all offers and remained faithful to its deceased companion.
