Tom Holland Helps Rescue Puppies Get Adopted In Superhero-Themed ‘Rescue Dog Rescue’

Holland also shared a hilarious story about a trip to the gym he had with co-star and friend Jake Gyllenhaal.

Tom Holland is helping some adorable puppies find a forever home.

While appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Monday night, the “Spider-Man: Far From Home” star participated in a superhero edition of the late-night show’s pup-ular segment “Rescue Dog Rescue.”

The way it works: celebrity guests make up funny lies about rescue dogs so viewers will be more likely to adopt them.

“Welcome to ‘Rescue Dog Rescue: Superhero Edition,'” Colbert explained. “You know our motto ‘With great paw-er comes great dane-sponsbility.'” The CBS star then introduced Spider-Man himself, Holland, who said, “Say no more, Stephen. I will rescue these dogs.”

One by one, Colbert and Holland grabbed a cute pup, showcased it to the audience and dropped some white lies about the furry friend. Being a superhero-themed edition, all of the dogs had special names fit for the Marvel universe, including “Spider-Pup,” “Black Widdle,” eye patch-wearing “Nick Furry,” and, our personal favorite, “Captain Americuddles.”

While holding an adorable dachshund named “Peter Barker,” Holland said, “He may look like an ordinary dachshund, but he actually gained superpowers after being bitten by a genetically modified schnauzer. That’s right, he’s a dog that has gained the abilities of a different dog, and that’s why his superhero name is Dog-Dog.”

All of Colbert’s furry friends, which come from the North Shore Animal League America, are all adoptable.

Also during his late-night appearance, Holland spoke about working with Jake Gyllenhaal in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” onscreen, as well as the bromance they’ve created off set.

When asked about what they like to do together when they’re not filming, the 23-year-old actor recalled a hilarious story about a memorable trip to they took to the gym. According to Holland, things got quite competitive, for him at least.

While doing press in China recently, Holland said Gyllenhaal asked him to join him for a workout. However, the young Brit wasn’t eager to pump iron with the “Nightcrawler” star.

“I have to be honest. I didn’t want to go because Jake Gyllenhaal is ripped,” he said. “And I’m really competitive.” Holland reluctantly agreed.

While at the gym, after doing some ab and leg exercises, Gyllenhaal suggested they “warm up” up on the treadmill. “I’m like, ‘Warm up?!'” Holland recalled. “I’m like, ‘I’m roasting, mate. I’m finished!'”

Holland wasn’t joking when he said he gets competitive. “I’m like, ‘A mile? Are we pressed for time? C’mon, let’s do two,'” he recalled telling Gyllenhaal, adding, “Immediately I’m regretting suggesting doing two miles…And there’s, like, a law in the gym that you can’t run slower than the guy next to you. You just can’t.”

“There’s nothing that’s going to get me off this treadmill,” he continued. “I will beat Jake Gyllenhaal in this race. Then 3, 4 minutes in he goes, ‘Tom, this is too easy, lets up the incline.'” At this point, Holland was cramping up, but he wasn’t going to let it show.

“[Gyllenhaal] is like, ‘Let’s do 3.5 [miles],'” Holland recalled. “I’m like, ‘Dude, let’s do 4! Why 3.5? Why stop there?'”

The actor learned the hard way that pushing yourself too hard has its consequences. See what happened to Holland later that day in the full clip below.
