Katherine Schwarzenegger has responded to the backlash on her husband Chris Pratt after a string of controversies dubbed him the ‘worst Chris in Hollywood’.
Over the years, Chris Pratt has faced criticism from fans for various issues, with a notable one being when he praised Katherine for giving birth to a ‘healthy daughter’ which fans took as a dig towards his ex-wife Anna Faris.
The author, 33, and the actor, 43, first got together in 2018 before tying the knot a year later, with the pair now sharing two daughters.
But he was previously married to actress Anna Faris, 46, who he shares a son with – but he was born nine weeks premature and weighing 3 lbs 12oz – and his ‘healthy’ comment caused fans to hit out at the star for shaming his ex.
With some of these controversies in mind, Katherine has revealed her thoughts about the criticism he has faced.
Speaking to The New York Times, Katherine opened up about her husband: ‘I see what people say. But I just know that it’s so far from the reality.’
She also touched on how her upbringing as the daughter of actor and bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger and how that the crticism Chris received was not new to her.
She added: ‘Growing up, hearing people say certain things about my parents, my siblings, my extended family…’
Her mother, journalist Maria Shriver, she says warned her about the ‘never-ending’ trap of setting the record straight.
The author also touched on how despite growing up in the spotlight prepared her for the celebrity lifestyle, the attention after getting with Chris blew this up to a new level.
Chris was at the center of controversy in November 2021 as he shared an early birthday tribute to his 32-year-old wife Katherine as he thanked her for giving him a ‘healthy’ daughter which seemed to deride his son Jack, now aged nine, with ex Anna Faris, who suffers from health issues.
Users slammed his caption as ‘ableist’ (among other things) as Jack was born two months early weighing just three pounds, 12 ounces, and spent a month in the NICU and has cerebral hemorrhage (severe brain bleeding).
In June last year, Chris revealed that he cried about it when was featured on the cover of Men’s Health magazine, as he opened up about how hurt he was over the criticism he received over his social media activity.
His post was branded insensitive by some followers and others considered it a dig at his 45-year-old ex-wife. Chris revealed he was rattled by the response, saying: ‘That is f***ed up. My son’s gonna read that one day. He’s nine. And it’s etched in digital stone.
‘It really f***ing bothered me, dude. I cried about it. I was like, I hate that these blessings in my life are—to the people close to me—a real burden.’
He went on to have a few hernia and eye surgeries, and also had ‘a little heart issue,’ according to Anna, and he still has problems with his vision and leg muscles.
Chris talked about the post which was at the center of controversy and the firestorm that ensued as he explained: ‘I said something like, “Find someone who looks at you the way my wife looks at me.” And then I gave her some shit in the thing and said, “But I love you. I’m so thankful for my wife—she gave me a beautiful, healthy daughter.”
‘And then a bunch of articles came out and said, “That’s so cringeworthy. I can’t believe Chris Pratt would thank her for a healthy daughter when his first child was born premature. That’s such a dig at his ex-wife.”‘
Chris was married to Anna from 2009 to 2018 after meeting on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007.
In 2018, TV Guide was slammed for publishing an op-ed calling actor Chris Pratt ‘problematic’.
