One of the saddest facts about following the NBA is that we will see all the legends in the game right now eventually ride off into the sunset, as the legend before them did as well.
LeBron James has arguably has one of the most storied careers in NBA history. He may be getting a ‘The Last Dance’-esque docuseries for this career as well, as Lakers’ radio commentator John Ireland revealed that the producer of The Last Dance has been filming James.
“I hope I’m not talking out of school here, Andy Thompson, the guy who shot The Last Dance, Mychal Thompson’s younger brother, who has worked for the NBA for 30 years, has spent a ton of time with us this year. So if LeBron ever wanted to go down this road, I think Andy is stockpiling that just so he has it and has the opportunity to tell the story… If we go on a magical run to the title, Andy, who was the driving force behind The Last Dance, most of the stuff you saw in those 10 episodes was shot by Andy Thompson. And Andy’s a smart guy, he’s already working on, potentially, a story about the end of LeBron’s run like he had one for the end of Jordan’s run.”

Ireland also revealed that they have footage from the last two seasons of Kobe Bryant’s career, which could lead to a Bryant-themed documentary down the road as well. The Last Dance was specific to Michael Jordan and the narrative of his career, so seeing similar shows around LeBron or Kobe would be a treat for hoop fans.
A LeBron James Docuseries
Whatever Andy Thompson has in mind won’t be the same as ‘The Last Dance’ but will definitely be just as engaging. James has a lot more footage over his career, which is also going to be much longer than MJ’s. The stories that can be told are incredible and it’ll be interesting to see how this is executed.
James has his own media company that has been recording moments of his career for the last decade, so a collaboration between SpringHill Entertainment and Andy Thompson could result in one of the most compelling sports biographies that we have seen in recent years.
