Natural beauty! Keanu Reeves‘ new girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, shared a powerful message on December 4 about why she doesn’t dye her gray hair. The artist revealed that she wanted to keep toxins out of her body, which meant challenging today’s beauty standards.
“Wow. Today’s news,” the 46-year-old captioned a screenshot on Instagram of a headline from Newsweek that read: “Breast Cancer Linked to Permanent Hair Dye and Chemical Hair Straighteners in Study of Almost 50,000 Women.” She added, “The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of color.”
The visual artist shared that her hair first started turning gray “prematurely” while she was in her early 20s, and she compensated by dying her locks “every color along the way.” What made her put down the color? “I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes anymore. In my 30s I let my hair turn ‘blonde,’” she noted.
Alexandra explained that she is here for the freedom to express individuality, but doesn’t think it’s good for people to change their hair color to fit into social norms. “I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards … then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!” she concluded her post. We stan a powerful lady!
