A major Marvel Cinematic Universe star is joining Sony Pictures’ Venom 3 as Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast in Tom Hardy’s upcoming trilogy finale.
Sony Pictures’ Venom 3 adds Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Chiwetel Ejiofor as he becomes the latest cast member to join Tom Hardy’s trilogy finale. Eddie Brock is getting closer to come back to the big screen in what might be his final movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. With principal photography reportedly set to start next month on Venom 3, Sony is finalizing major pre-production aspects, including the cast that will be starring alongside Hardy.
Deadline reveals that Ejiofor, who plays Baron Mordo in the Doctor Strange movies, having last been seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has joined Venom 3 in a mystery role. Sony and Ejiofor’s representatives have yet to comment on his casting for the Venom threequel. No details were given about what kind of character Ejiofor will be portraying in Venom 3.
Everything We Know About Venom 3
While more will likely be revealed about Venom 3 once they start filming, a few key details are already known about the film thus far. Kelly Marcel, who penned the screenplay for the first two Venom installments, will be directing the third film. For Marcel, this marks her directorial debut while also writing the script together with Hardy for Venom 3.
Outside of Hardy and Ejiofor, the only other actor to have joined Venom 3 at this point is Ted Lasso star Juno Temple, who was cast in April. Similar to Ejiofor, Temple’s character is being kept under wraps, but it is said to be a lead role, which could s suggest her either being Eddie’s new love-interest or perhaps a villain in the film. It remains to be seen if Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) and Stephen Graham (Patrick Mulligan, a.k.a. Toxin) will return after their last appearance in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
The bigger mystery, however, is whether or not this will be Hardy’s final outing as Venom in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. With more films on their way about Spider-Man characters, it seems unlikely that Sony will be done with Venom already after this upcoming installment. Hopefully, once Venom 3 begins filming, it will become clear whether or not this is going to be Hardy’s last time portraying the iconic Marvel anti-hero.
