Why You Won’t Be Able To Buy The Rarest Lamborghini Urus Ever Made

Lamborghini has unveiled the Urus Performante Essenza SCV12, a super exclusive 40 unit run of the SUV open to a very select group of customers.

Since it exploded onto the scene several years ago, the Lamborghini Urus has been a hugely popular part of the manufacturer’s range. The V8 powered SUV sports typically wild Lamborghini styling. Yet that has not stopped Lamborghini from creating special versions of the vehicle. The most exclusive has just launched, with the raging bull launching the Urus Performante Essenza SCV12. Taking its name from the track-only version of the Aventador.

Not only does the SCV12 take the name from the Aventador, it takes its exclusivity. Lamborghini will only make 40 examples of this Urus model, and they are already reserved for an exclusive set of customers. Those that own the Aventador Essenza are the only ones who will be able to get their hands on this ludicrous edition of the Urus. It’s a part of a package deal. Think of it as a daily driving courtesy car if you will, that comes with your track-only supercar.

This Urus Is For Aventador Essenza SCV12 Customers Onlyvia Lamborghini

Regular Lamborghini customers simply can’t buy this example of the Urus. The model is exclusively reserved for the 40 people who got their hands on the Aventador’s track-only Essenza SCV12 edition. Arguably the most incredible iteration of the Aventador we ever saw. The Aventador Essenza was developed by Lamborghini Quadra Corse, the manufacturer’s motorsport department while it was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile. As a track-only special, you will never see one of these on a public road.

Under the hood of the Aventador Essenza is a spectacular 6.5-liter V12 engine. It is an engine that developed more power than any regular V12 Lambo before it, thanks to the ram-air effect. Due to the air gulped in via the roof scoop, the V12 produces 830 hp in total, with 560 lb-ft of torque at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque number of 614 lb-ft. The track-only supercar sports various external changes such as the massive new rear wing, and the prominent front splitter. The car was in effect the answer to the Ferrari XX program. Owners of the Aventador Essenza would get a specially catered program to take their car around some of the world’s best racetracks.

The Urus Essenza Does Not Inherit The Aventador’s V12 Enginevia Lamborghini

One of the key differences between the Aventador and Urus Essenza is the powertrain. The Urus doesn’t inherit the mad V12 from its supercar cousin. Lamborghini electing to retain V8 power, specifically the twin-turbo V8 under the hood of the already hardcore Urus Performante. This provides an extra 16 hp over the standard Urus to 666 hp, while the Performante shaved some 104 lbs from the weight of the regular model. A weight reduction carried over into the Urus Essenza.

The most striking similarity between the Aventador and Urus is the two-tone finish. The lower part is black, and a racing number appears on the front doors. Not every Aventador Essenza had the same color. But Lamborghini has showcased a bright green example of the SUV alongside a similarly colored version of the Aventador. Various brake caliper and wheel colors are available, Lamborghini so far showcasing glossy black with matching calipers. That really is where the similarities end. Because unlike the supercar, this Urus can go on public roads. Meaning it retains the usual levels of luxury on the inside.

Why Is The Urus Essenza So Exclusive?via Lamborghini

With Lamborghini only making 40 examples of the Urus Essenza, the vehicle was already highly exclusive. But order books will only open for those who own the Aventador. Lamborghini does not state why only customers of the Aventador Essenza can order the Urus. Nor does it state the price that the SUV will be. The Urus is likely about offering a road-going Essenza to compliment the one that owners can have for the racetrack. The Urus perhaps the vehicle you drive to the track, before stepping into its race ready cousin. But offering it to an already select group of customers is an unusual choice.

We can only speculate on pricing, although it’s unlikely to cost around the $2 million mark the Aventador Essenza was priced at. For some context, the Urus Performante would set you back around the $210,000 mark. You get plenty of additional details within the Urus Essenza for your money, such as the Nero Cosmus Alcantara upholstery and the various leather and carbon fiber details dotted throughout. Two carbon fiber plaques help to make the vehicle more unique. One shows the VIN of the Urus or the customers name, while the other has the Lamborghini 60th Anniversary logo.

How The Urus Essenza SCV12 Differs From The Regular Urusvia Lamborghini

A multitude of cosmetic changes help this Urus to differ from the regular model. Carbon fiber elements are all over the outside, owners having the choice of a glossy or matte finish on those components. The hood, roof and the rocker covers are all carbon fiber, as are the mirrors and the frame within the Lamborghini logo. This extensive use of carbon fiber helps keep the weight of the roughly 4,000 lbs SUV as low as possible. But Lamborghini has not gone all out with the weight saving on the car.

While the Urus Essenza from the press release is in green, various color combinations are available upon request from the customer. This is thanks to the Ad Personam livery within the Centro Stile program. Lamborghini says that the body colors and livery for the Urus Essenza were all chosen to echo those of the Essenza SCV12 Aventador. Lamborghini’s head of design Mitja Borkert said that “The Lamborghini Urus SC-V12 Edition is the most expressive and detailed livery we have ever created.”

Lamborghini has enjoyed a good last couple of years with the Urus. Most notably was the run at the 100th Pikes Peak Hill Climb by the Urus Performante. The raging bull was able to set a course record for a production-spec SUV up the hill. Managing the 156-turn event in 10 minutes 32.064 seconds, taking the title off the Bentley Bentayga. The record-breaking run acted as a prelude to the launch of the Performante just a few months later. Unlike the Essenza Urus though, the Performante is open to those who do not own the track-only Aventador.

What Is Next For The Lamborghini Urus?via Lamborghini

While these new performance Urus’s are impressive, the future for the SUV is even more interesting. Lamborghini has already been testing a hybrid version of the SUV as it gears to electrify much of its range by 2024. Rumors have rumbled about Lamborghini using a Porsche powertrain within the car. Porsche of course a sister company in the Volkswagen umbrella. Any hybrid version will likely precede a full-electric version, but that may not happen until the start of the 2030s at the earliest. For now, it is likely some more special editions of the Urus will appear before then. Although how Lamborghini can top the exclusivity of the Essenza SCV12 is hard to see.
