John Cena mistakenly denies having worked with Margot Robbie before, despite having starred alongside her in a movie.

Now, being a top actor, it can be tough to remember the names of every single person you’ve ever worked with.

So you can understand how John Cena completely forgot he’d worked with Margot Robbie:

The former WWE star has been promoting his new film Fast Xthe long-awaited sequel in the never-ending franchise.

And during one interview, Cena revealed that he also tried to get a part in the upcoming Barbie movie, but got ‘rejected’.

Well, that was until Robbie got involved and worked her magic to get her old buddy a part as a merman – all of which seemingly confused the hell out of poor old John.

“It was a happy accident,” Cena told the Today show. “I haven’t worked with Margot before. We literally randomly ran into each other as friends.

Fast X was filming across the street from Barbie. And [she asked], ‘Why don’t you do Barbie?’ I said, ‘I’ve been trying!’

“And Margot makes a lot of the decisions for that and I said, ‘Well, I’ll do whatever you need’.”

Cena added: “They asked me if I wanted to be a merman, and I said, ‘Yeah, sure’.”

For those who aren’t aware, Robbie and Cena starred alongside each other in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Robbie reprised her role as Harley Quinn in the 2021 movie, while Cena starred as ruthless anti-hero Peacemaker, before going on to get his own spinoff show on HBO Max.

According to Cena, who’s reprising his role as Jakob Toretto in the new Fast movie, Barbie and Fast X aren’t a million miles apart – although we’re guessing they won’t attract quite the same crowd at multiplexes.

“I think Barbie and Fast X share a lot of parallels,” he went on.

“Their cast list is amazing. The Barbie cast list is amazing. The Fast X cast list is amazing. It was a chance maybe to [say], ‘Hey, would you guys be willing to have me if I could do something?’”

But as well as being good news for Cena, his part in the new Barbie film is great business for the WWE

The former wrestler recently discussed WWE’s ownership of his name during an interview on The Howard Stern Show, where he confirmed that WWE founder Vince McMahon gets a cut of all of his movies.

When asked whether having his name owned by the wrestling federation bothered him, Cena responded: “Absolutely not.”

Explaining his stance on the matter, he continued: “Howard, before this I was a kid in a small Massachusetts town mowing lawns for a golf course. I don’t mind kicking a percentage of my earnings to the person who gave me a chance and an opportunity.

“If anything that’s a sign of respect, I owe that guy a lot.”
