Jennifer Lawrence recently shared the story behind her new comedy film, No Hard Feelings, directed by Gene Stupnitsky, which was inspired by a Craigslist ad. In the film, Lawrence plays an Uber driver who responds to an ad asking for someone to seduce a 19-year-old and take their virginity before college.
Stupnitsky explained that it was the film’s producers who brought the Craigslist ad to his attention, and after reading it, he knew he had to create a film around it. Lawrence found the ad hilarious, and the idea stuck with her. Years later, Stupnitsky presented Lawrence with a script, which she described as the funniest one she’s ever read.
In an interview with EW, Lawrence also spoke about the challenges of releasing an R-rated comedy in cinemas rather than on streaming platforms. Despite this, she expressed confidence in the film and the team’s ability to put their best foot forward.
In addition to No Hard Feelings, Lawrence recently starred in the film Causeway, which explores themes of adulthood and substance abuse. Despite its incisive questions and strong performances, the film may not receive the recognition it deserves due to its understated nature.
